Why are Teachers paid so poorly?

They sure do have to deal with a lot of crap. The students, the parents, and the administration that pressures them into handing out hundreds of standardized tests. Why are their salaries so low?

Then why are they fat? people that work their asses off generally don't sit on their fat ass all day. shuffling papers is not work.

Bullshit. It is written in the contract that teachers will receive a salary increase. Their wages are literally never stagnant. So not only do you have wages that are guaranteed to increase but you also have strong unions to give you an unsurpassed amount of job security.

You do not get paid minimum wage! You get paid (for anyone who has been there past any probationary periods) $30 or more an hour.

Everyone says they would love to have the teachers job because they get summers off, but they have never been a teacher in a school setting. If you heard the stories my wife comes home with every day, you would not think the same way.

The kids now days are completely entitled and have no respect for anyone. It's not like it was even 20 years ago. If you discipline a student, you could get in trouble. Even talking sternly is considered discipline in some instances.

Teachers have no support from the home life usually. It's considered not much more than a day care system by most parents, and this is elementary school my wife teaches. Parents barely care anymore and yell at you when their kid is behind.
