Out of the Swamp and into the Woods
America was comfortable with the swamp. It was the swamp we knew. We could stare into the abyss and marvel at the stench of our political and economic system's inadequacies. Failure became such a familiar feeling that our society came to venerate it, bowing to the God of "Popular Science" while vaingloriously decrying environmental atrocities and declaring that humanity might as well be wiped from the face of the Earth. Our misdeeds and failures became America's safe space.

Trump shattered that illusion and led a courageous contingent of citizens away from the swamp. But now we are in the woods, unfamiliar territory, dark with data, dense with disinformation. Not everyone is going to make it through to the hoped for land on the other side of this tangled web of illusions, false trails, and pitfalls awaiting.

into the Shadow with teeth bared,
screaming defiance with the last breath,
to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the Last Day.”

The point is that we, as a society, were standing at the edge of the abyss, afraid to move, paralyzed by political correctness.

Trump stood up and said, "Wake up! Let's get the hell out of here!" and so we banded together and struck out into unexplored regions. The woods are not for the faint of heart though. The path is too narrow, we have to split up. It's even darker here than in the swamp, with phantom sounds cascading irreverently, CIA Will o' the Wisps, leading the naive to their doom.

Something definitely happened to Trump in the last couple of weeks. He has changed.
He turned 180 on everything he promised.

Neoliberalism sought to mask the pain of the Abyss, seeing our fall as inevitable. Neoconservatism fought the Abyss, their futile struggles but sucking them deeper in and turning them into that which they quarreled against. Now we hear whispers and shouts sifting through the looming gloomy branches. We could see the God-Emperor on the stump, leading us away, but once in the woods, communications are fraught with difficulty and error. All we can do is hold the line and keep marching forwards, into the unknown, the unplanned, hoping that Light will once again flow like rain and transform the dark wood into a lush forest.
