Same reason our infrastructure is being ignored and left to crumble. There is little political will to spend money now that will reap benefits in the future. They only want to spend money now that reaps benefits NOW (ie, promise free shit to get re-elected).

Investments should be made to infrastructure (and I include the electric grid in that term) now so that our future selves (or future generations) will be better served or protected. But politicians refuse to do it. And we the people put up with it.

They waited far too long. North Korea is much farther along in building a nuclear arsenal and in all methods of delivering warheads to targets and they've had a lot of covert help from secret communist sympathizers.

No attack preemptive or otherwise will be possible without devastating widespread consequences. Far too catastrophic to be able now to justify military intervention and/or unprovoked confrontation.

North Korea will rapidly take it all to the next level and beyond now virtually unmitigated and eventually have the ability to hold the world hostage while making demands that will have to be met or else.
