Most people won't ever be worth a shit, no matter how much you pay them. In fact, most people will get lazier the more you pay them because when most people start doing well financially, it goes straight to their head. They start thinking they don't need the very people who elevated their status in the first place. All of a sudden they think they invented flipping burgers. The world can only support so many burger flippers, the rest will have to die out eventually.

No pity for businesses that rely on slavery.

Why did the massive hikes in wages at manufacturing jobs not close any factories?

Why did the minimum wage fail to close any businesses in 1970?

Increases for inflation, (true inflation), of education, medicine, housing, energy, and food would have put the minimum wage at closer to $20.00 per hour today.

If you include increases in productivity, it should be closer to $30.00 or $40.00 per hour today.

the minimum wage should be zero.

Maximum should be whatever you can earn.

Eating out is a scam. They use the same ingredients you get in any supermarket & charge up to 8x the cost to make.

In the end you get what you pay for and most these restaurant owners only know how to scam people.

It's not a question of skills.

Factory laborers had less education and few skills, but their higher pay elevated the whole country to unheard of prosperity.

Even capitalism doesn't work if people don't have capital, if they don't own their homes outright, and all they can do u

It's serfdom, and it leads only to death, not prosperity.

That, and breakthroughs in technology leading to greater abundance. Now we must reinvent the capitalist process OR have another tech breakthrough on the order of the internet.

Incentive must be maintained without force, but there must be a minimum standard available to all. It's a hard problem.

Too many people chasing too few jobs. Thank too much immigration for keeping those who will take a low wage job.

It is NOT that jobs are 'below' an American - it is that the wage does not support a normal life.

Want wages to go higher? Stop bringing in those who will work for peanuts.

Throw in the fact if wages go too high then companies move out of the country to lower wage countries. China was the poster child for this now it is Mexico.

Bottom line - the USA decades ago had 70%+ of global wealth. Today it is something around 35%.

Re: Hike in minimum wage prompts more closings of San Francisco restaurants
From the article:

"The impact on exit is concentrated among lower quality restaurants, which are already closer to the margin of exit. This suggests that the ability of firms to adjust to minimum wage changes could differ depending on firm quality," the study found. The higher-rated restaurants can adjust, primarily through working their employees harder.

Higher minimum wages also reduce the rate at which new restaurants open by 4-6 percent per $1 increase in the minimum, the study found."

So the "lower quality" restaurants are being forced out (i.e., cheaper food for people that can't afford a 5* meal). So those with a lower/moderate income are eventually forced out of the city (same with housing prices) leaving only the affluent. Another liberal logic fail. Prices/wages should be allowed to seek their own level in any market. Any intervention on either side simply creates unintended consequences.

wait till everyone does the math and realizes there aren't enough jobs for available for all able bodied workers.

Add to that the automation of everything.

It's all over soon folks.

Universal minimum wage is the only answer.

But that would necessitate a government that was designed for the good of the people.

You'd think with all the tax revenue siphoned from Americans since the illegal taxations we would have a utopia by now.

Not that hard to provide fundamental wellbeing to 300 million people with trillions of dollars.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73728210

A universal minimum wage would be a disaster, you myopic Luddite. If price controls worked, then North Korea and the former Soviet Union should have been paradises. Also, if production becomes automated, what will stop me from using those tools to make what I need on my own? Sounds good to me. Sounds liberating. And if I can't afford my robot farmer, gardener, maid or chef, then maybe I'll join a co-op that can. I especially can't wait for the discovery and production of cheap, local and abundant energy. Oh yeah, and don't forget about 3D printers.... Ironically, you libtards are actually regressives. The kind of jokers who would have complained that the automobile will put farriers out of business. You guys are stupid!!!!!!!!
 Quoting: Dick Tracy

If the robots can be used by individuals to produce everything they need then you wouldn't have a problem giving a universal wage now would you?

myopic? can't even comprehend the point made originally.

unless you you were waiting to reply to the lack of jobs now and the inevitable automation of all jobs.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74707886

If the "robots" can produce everything (which they can't and won't), then what good is money? Ever think about that? Seriously, try thinking outside the box, libtards. Robots being my bitches sounds pretty cool to me. I'll make knives, go hunting, build a fort for my kids, play golf, do some plant breeding, make some killer whiskey, whatever the heck I want while my "robots" do all of the boring shit. Isn't that what the Industrial Revolution has really been all about? You act like robotics will destroy jobs without creating any. That will only happen if government interferes enough to make it happen. Otherwise, people will find things to do with their free time that others will be willing to pay for in some fashion.

And what would that even do? That wouldn't fix anything. You could make minimum wage $1 and it would have the same effect in the long run. Just like every single other minimum wage change has had the same long term effect.

Your setting a minimum for the economic system.....that's all you are doing.

Walmart tells their new employees how to apply for welfare, because their wages are so low that they qualify for it.

That says all you need to know. Taxpayers are subsidizing the massive profits of multi-billion dollar corporations.

Minimum wage should be exactly what it was during our biggest economic boom HISTORICALLY, adjusted for inflation. And it should AUTOMATICALLY change each year to adjust for the latest inflation rates, so it's not insanely low (or high) for months or years or decades while our politicians argue whether or not it should change.

Robots and AI will replace virtually all jobs within 30 years or so.

In the long term we'll need a Universal Minimum Income to keep our economy from dying.

In the short term, we need to start paying workers the equivalent of what they made in 1965 (adjusted for inflation) so our economy isn't pure shit.

I don't even get why the rich have a problem with that. All the extra money they pay goes right back to THEM (i.e. the overall economy) anyway. When a Walmart worker gets paid more per hour, those extra bucks don't go into a bank account in the Cayman Islands. Those extra bucks go into BUYING MORE SHIT AT WALMART.

Wake up, rich people! Henry Ford had this shit figured out.

The USA is collapsing.

The US is in debt, is conducting multiple wars, is a police state, is flooded by illegal immmigrants, and has become immoral.

Americans are either ignoring the decay or think that nothing can be done to stop the decline. Almost no one thinks the US can be saved.

No one seems to be worried about tyranny because liberals think the police state only applies to conservatives and conservatives think the police state only affects liberals.

The truth seems to be that the elites want to wipe out the strong white men and plan to send the weak liberals to the gulags where they will be starved and killed. The 1% will then divide the wealth and land of the US among themselves.

How else can you explain the destruction of the USA? Economics isn't rocket science. If you want a strong economy, don't punish hard work with taxes and regulations while rewarding laziness with welfare and allowing millions of 3rd world immigrants to flood the country.

[link to www.americanthinker.com]

Those fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Sadly Americans won't realize what is happening until it is too late.

Never underestimate the inhumanity of man towards man. Greed has no bounds.

Wake up.

Think.

Pass the word.
