No pity for businesses that rely on slavery.

Why did the massive hikes in wages at manufacturing jobs not close any factories?

Why did the minimum wage fail to close any businesses in 1970?

Increases for inflation, (true inflation), of education, medicine, housing, energy, and food would have put the minimum wage at closer to $20.00 per hour today.

If you include increases in productivity, it should be closer to $30.00 or $40.00 per hour today.

prices go up on everything, especially energy and food.

Wages goes up to try and catch up and the whole thing falls apart?

Why is reality not like I think it should be!! Why? Why?

Why does the supply and demand curve work when I think it shouldn't?

Why am I driving out of business the smaller/poorer independent restaurants who can't take advantage of economies of scale more than the 1%'er restaurants?

Why does arbitrarily setting a price for something usually create a shortage or a surplus?

Why do I not care when restaurants close down and have no pity and not understand that the owner just had to fire a bunch of minimum wage employees who will earn ZERO PER HOUR.

It's not a question of skills.

Factory laborers had less education and few skills, but their higher pay elevated the whole country to unheard of prosperity.

Even capitalism doesn't work if people don't have capital, if they don't own their homes outright, and all they can do is borrow themselves deeply into debt and pay grossly inflated rents to their landlords.

It isn't capitalism.

It's serfdom, and it leads only to death, not prosperity.

Hate to be a dick but if your only making it with a minimal profit and cant afford to treat your employees well. Then your business model was crap and needed to be replaced in the firat place.

People in 1975 were getting 15.00 an hour working at Sears warehouse. Their rent was 400.00 a month on a now 380,000.00 home.

They literally bought in at 20k and made a quarter million paying off the home in several years.

I can work two jobs beyond full time and I barely make the 2.00 daily bus fare by the weeks end-

Its too preposterous to continue to allow this. The inflation needs to be reduced as everyone in the nation is impacted by it.

yeah so you have to pay 30 to 40$ a plate at you favorite place so the minimum wage workers can afford a place live and a car to drive...every where you go you get nickle and dime to death with fees and taxes.

obviously there is a bigger issue at hand here.

A better minimum wage is the only alternative.

It doesn't damage good businesses because it is a level playing field.

No business suffers any more than any other business, because they all must pay the wage.

The object for the business then becomes to hire the best employees.

There would be more unemployment, but people would sort it out the best way available. Women would stay home to raise and educate children, cook meals, clean house, etc., and men would be able to support them.

Bad employees would quickly be fired.

People would rise to the occasion, and the economy would go like a powerhouse.

Money would really trickle down to people who work, and it would be very difficult to maintain mansions, luxuries, and wealth.

Men without families would accumulate enough capital to make capitalism work through innovation and entrepreneurship.

That's the way it used to be.

Honestly, they were gonna close anyways. All this s**t is gonna close, retail, auto shops, we headed for a friggin mega depression, nobody's got money to be eating and shopping except the ultra rich.

My son works for a richey-rich 5* restaurant in SF and they are doing "great" business, record bookings even, and just again "raised" their prices. Minimum wage didn't hurt anything because no one can pay their bills with it anyways, and as far as "competition" that minimum wage "used" to hurt, well, we don't have a "free market" anymore, so minimum wage doesn't have the effect it used to because no matter what the wage is now, there will be people who will work for $2.00 an hour, the corporations don't have to "compete" for workers anymore.

A universal minimum wage would be a disaster, you myopic Luddite. If price controls worked, then North Korea and the former Soviet Union should have been paradises. Also, if production becomes automated, what will stop me from using those tools to make what I need on my own? Sounds good to me. Sounds liberating. And if I can't afford my robot farmer, gardener, maid or chef, then maybe I'll join a co-op that can. I especially can't wait for the discovery and production of cheap, local and abundant energy. Oh yeah, and don't forget about 3D printers.... Ironically, you libtards are actually regressives. The kind of jokers who would have complained that the automobile will put farriers out of business. Re: Hike in minimum wage prompts more closings of San Francisco restaurants
From the article:

"The impact on exit is concentrated among lower quality restaurants, which are already closer to the margin of exit. This suggests that the ability of firms to adjust to minimum wage changes could differ depending on firm quality," the study found. The higher-rated restaurants can adjust, primarily through working their employees harder.

Higher minimum wages also reduce the rate at which new restaurants open by 4-6 percent per $1 increase in the minimum, the study found."

So the "lower quality" restaurants are being forced out (i.e., cheaper food for people that can't afford a 5* meal). So those with a lower/moderate income are eventually forced out of the city (same with housing prices) leaving only the affluent. Another liberal logic fail. Prices/wages should be allowed to seek their own level in any market. Any intervention on either side simply creates unintended consequences.

You are WRONG!!! The minimum wage does not produce a "level playing field." It weeds out smaller business, thereby giving more power to large businesses and corporations. The long term effect is a reduction in competition and therefore a LOWERING of wages. Don't believe me? Look at the results of rent control - HIGHER RENTS!!!!
