Cars dying: Some say that all vehicles traveling will come to a halt, with all modern vehicles damaged because of their use of modern electronics (and one movie even had a bulk, non-electronic part dying). Most likely there will be some vehicles affected, but probably just a small fraction of them (although this could create traffic jams in large cities). A car does not have very long cabling to act as antennas, and there is some protection from metallic construction. As non-metallic materials are used more and more in the future to decrease weight and increase fuel efficiency, this advantage may disappear.

Science bitches!

I do think the GLP crowd would be the most likely to sense this is serious and get their mindset retired the fastest. The Alabama pipeline burst I was filling up gas cans thinking there would be a shortage and most thought I was being ridiculous. As it turns out they think they were right - I still wouldn't change being over prepared.

The no electricity nothing works scenario is the hardest for me to get a grip on what to do

I figured the first response would be "go back to sleep since I'm takin the day off"

Do toilets work when the grid is down?
 Quoting: Evolution16

It may flush but I don't think the power grid that regulates the sanitation works so the water will no be clean after a while.

That's really scary.

There are PORTABLE TOILETS that you can buy/make. Look into it.

Thats why you should have an industrial capacity mechanical cutoff switch from the elect grid/antenna switch. Consumer grade ELECTRICAL transfer switches aren't fast enough.
SO YOU HAVE TO EITHER GO OFF GRID PREEMPTIVELY OR BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO DO IT IMMEDIATELY ON APPROPRITE INTEL.

Of course you can prepare gas phase fire prevention with automatic or manual release halon or CO2 enough to flood the house, but then youd need ready access to scbu equipment to fight spot fires and open any number of 100 pound CO2 tanks, which should have down tubes installed for maximum CO2 FLOOD dispersal.

ofcourse if if you have an adequate supply of water, a pool, a cystern and a propane powered water pumping system and spray directed at the house with which you could spray over your house that would also increase odds of defeating house fire be it from any fire threat.

You need to execute the refrigerator back up plan.
Most people store food long term in the fridge.
You could keep a bag of ice in there to slow the thaw while the DOORS ARE SHUT.

Try to figure out why the hell the electricity is off.

Once I figure it out, time to secure stuff & prepare to defend the fort.
 Quoting: Lady Jane Smith

I'd start by taping black plastic over my windows so my neighbors don't wonder how I'm the only one in the neighborhood with lights.

Then after I got done filling everything with water I'd put a crude "there's nothing here worth dying for" sign in the front yard.

Then I'd move on to the nifty surprises those who didn't heed the warning would be receiving. I'm not in the best location to defend my home but I'd sure try. Ideally I would grab the important stuff and head to my brother's farm if I had an hour or so advance notice.
