Hey guys, I think I have a blood clot in my leg, no insurance. What should I do?
Hey I know this isn't doom related but I have received good advice here before so I though I would try again.

About 2 months ago I had an episode where my leg and feet (mainly right side) swelled up and I attributed it to sitting and salty foods i had that day. Since I have been avoiding the salt and haven't noticed much overall swelling but I was looking at my leg a bit ago and it seems like I have a decent sized bulge "2 diameter and maybe 3/4" high, slightly bruised looking. Anyways it seems like it could be a clot from what I have read.

I am 32y male, 6' 2', 189 lbs. I am in good shape, work out and eat fairly clean and feel great overall but I sit quite a bit for work in front of a computer as a 3d artist.

I don't have insurance, what would you do in my situation? Should I go to an ER or an urgent care clinic and ask if they can bill me?

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks for taking any time to read this or reply.

You should get it looked at , seriously.
The clot can potentially break off and travel to your lung and cause pulmonary embolus (very bad). You need antcoagulates (blood thinners). Until then, keep your leg elevated. But do go to the doc asap. Stay healthy!

Keep it elevated and apply heat (hot water bottle, heating pad) Start wearing one of those support hose things you can buy in the drugstore.

You might need the right kind of blood thinner meds, quick!

Go to the emergency room. This could be life threatening and they will not turn you away if it is a blood clot. Hospitals have contingencies for helping people who don't have any money.

Re: Hey guys, I think I have a blood clot in my leg, no insurance. What should I do?
I'm no doctor, but it is logical to eat fresh garlic. It's a natural blood thinner. Walking is a good, gentle exercise that still gets the blood circulating. Walking up and down stairs is also good. This is basic, daily good stuff to do.

Since you might have a blood clot, eating 3 or 4 cloves of garlic could be good. It's hard to eat raw. Try dropping thin slices in hot soup to gently cook it enough to be palatable without cooking the vitality out of it.

If you don't have insurance because you are poor, try to get medicaid. It really is decent health insurance. You could also look for a health clinic in the meanwhile.

If garlic and walking do not produce results within a 2 or 3 days, then you may want to go to an emergency ward if you can't find a clinic or doctor to see you soon.

I read about the clot traveling to the lungs, I really think I am just going to go to the er and tell them I am uninsured. It sounds like this kills 100,000 people in the US per year. Geez.

Re: Hey guys, I think I have a blood clot in my leg, no insurance. What should I do?
Does it hurt at all?

Clots in the legs tend to feel like Charlie horses. Not always, but that is how they are often described.

You might have a significant vericose vein bulge. Does it feel warm and/or itchy under the skin? If yes, it is probably a blown vein valve, and no worries.

Clots are serious business, and can kill you will a pulmonary embolism when they break free.

You can walk into ANY emergency room and they are required by law to treat you, even if you don't have a cent to your name and no insurance. They will bill you later. And you can negotiate with their finance office on the charges, line item by line item. Plus, as long as you pay the hospital at least $1 per month, they cannot sue you for the balance...those laws again.

Chia seeds can thin the blood also. You can buy them at most health food stories. They might even have them in your regular grocery by now.
Put some in water and let them gel up. Consume them how ever you can get them down. I know that these thin the blood enough you don't want to be consuming them and have any kind of surgery. Good luck OP.

You probably have superficial thrombophlebitis.
call around to radiology or vascular doctor clinics and see if you can get a good cash price.
I did this and got a CT scan for 200 bucks, cash.

Saw off your leg, cauterize the stump and get a wicked cool pirate peg leg. Won't cost more than $200 if you already have a good power saw. Be careful not to cut the power cord.

Aspirin is the thing if you wont get proper care or a leg deep vein ultrasound.. The standard treatment is coumadin which you cannot do on your own because you need to have it balanced with repeated blood tests so it doesnt kill you
WARM wet soaks and general compression and if at all possible get into warm water up to your waist as much as you can to counteract the swelling until it goes down.
