While I agree that this is puke legislation, it is a better first step than was expected. Nothing was expected, after all.
After liquor prohibition, the unleashing of booze was a very slow affair as well. Some states still claim a selling monopoly on "hard" liquor, in their special State Stores, here in the states, after 80 or so years. Yet, we see microbreweries and personal-use distilleries commonly found, and their equipment bought and sold.
The pot scare of the early 20th century was a biggie, didn't experience it myself (anyone old enough to remember it firsthand?), but have seen some of the news scare headlines and such.
This new legislation might be thought of as a stepping stone, not the end of the road. Many adjustments must be made.
Is it true that in British Columbia there has been no effective pot prohibition for over a decade? Heard that it is used as openly as Amsterdam. Would be interested in anyone's experiences there.
