High-speed police chase leaves motorcyclist dead, South Carolina deputy on leave (VIDEO)

Dashcam footage shows Berkeley County deputy James Vansant’s cruiser hitting a speeding suspect’s motorcycle twice, at speeds near 90 miles per hour. The suspect then crashed and died, a result of being in the wrong gear, the sheriff’s office claims.

It may have been a bit excessive on the cop's part, but this is another in the ongoing series of object lessons of why you don't run from the police.

Cop was slowing down and last tap on his back wheel was at 64. Guy clearly missed a shift and came back to the cop car. Probably a better way to stop a drugged up moron on a bike but, hey... One point for Darwin.

A well done to the cop! That guy was a rolling fatality waiting to happen better that he died than some innocent motorist believe me I know!

I think maybe the asshole should have just pulled over. Not the cop's fault that the motorcyclist is an idiot and obviously has a death wish. He wasn't wearing a helmet. That's probably one reason why he died.

As far as I'm concerned, we just got rid of one more mentally challenged law breaker that hopefully didn't reproduce before being taken out...

Looks to me like he tried to put him on a collision course with that car.

The cop committed murder, plain and simple. What did he think would happen by hitting a speeding motorcycle from behind with his car? You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure that out.

For those who can defend this type of criminal behavior on the part of the cop it just shows the depraved state of mankind.

The first time the dumbass went through a red light without slowing down he became a legitimate threat to anyone on the road. The fact that only he died is a good thing.

In the olden days, like 40+ years ago, cops would take down the license plate and back off because chasing them in a urban area usually results in the speeding driver smashing into other people or himself.

We also did not have national databases back then nor easy ways to track people down. You could run to another state.

Technology has made it even easier today track down people so there really is no excuse to chase people other than for the power trip how dare they run from me mentality.

I don't think a pit maneuver was necessary on the motor cycle!! The outcome of this maneuver is pretty obvious to law enforcement. He had the plate number and could have caught him later.
