I forgot to add some clarification on the 6400 kHZ station.

So, the thing that the MSM can't put together and most people don't recognize right off the surface, whenever DPRK is fixing to launch a ballistic missile; the night before, they transmit some coded messages on 6400kHZ, next day they proceed with their OP.

I figure I ought to clarify why this bothers me so much, aside from the fact its a seemingly vacant field for the coordinates provided via the NOTAM.

So, when you think of 44,000ft AGL, you say to yourself, well hell, the Karman line doesn't start till 330,000ft, why is this NOTAM declaring "SPACE OPS".

In retrospect, commercial airliners cruise at a peak service ceiling of ~39,000ft AGL.
So declaring FL440, pretty much is the top out line.

They want to be at a high enough altitude to clear weather, minimize turbulence from thermal pockets/jet streams etc.

Anything above 40,000ft is going to cause overstressing of the airframe.
Aside from a lack of oxygen (visa vi no combustion)

Differential kPa between the pressurized cabin and external pressure becomes critical around 40,000ft for most commercial outfits.

So, the more altitude you ascend, the lower the external pressure becomes. To compensate for higher altitudes, crew would have to adjust the cabin pressure (lower) to compensate for the differential.

That's without taking into account the overstressing on the airframe.


The whole operation baffles me. 05MAY was the very first time these launch sites went online. So it'll be interesting to see what the LT says, versus what I find out on Wednesday :)

I honestly knew any response I received would be of that caliber. I only phoned this LT back, because she sounded cute and I wanted to deploy my sauvy charm on her in an effort to record something that I could share with ya'll that didn't require clearance of any kind.
