My dream is a tiny home. my son is planning to move out of our shared home. He's 26 and I totally understand he doesn't want to live with his Mum forever. However, I can't possibly afford to live here once he leaves.

I'm saving every penny to buy a campervan. When he leaves I will sell everything, live in my camper for two years, save every penny of my salary, and buy my land for my tiny home.

I may be 58 but still have plans :D
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

The one I was looking at is very similar to the one your showing in your video. It's called a deluxe lofted porch cabin and is 16' x 40'. The building comes standard with T1-11 siding, 7' sidewalls, 4 - 2'x3' windows. 1 - 9 lite walk door and porch rails. It has a metal roof and price includes installation. All for $15,000. That's a lot cheaper than getting a 5th wheel trailer...

Lots of room inside plus extra bedroom space/storage space in the lofts...

Looks like pressed board walls? I thought they are loaded with Formaldehyde?

I could build, live in something that size made of plywood. Would have to add an edition for a bathroom or carve out a corner for one.

Build your own.

It ain't rocket science. is that shack really 35'x20?

Cost less to build your own than to get that transported and set up.

If you want some thing fast, try a Yurt or couple of surplus USGI tents with liners. Build a foundation with treated wood and plywood floor it, then all you need is a well and septic. A used mobile home is a decent option.

Steel buildings are also versatile. Get a travel trailer, park the trailer in your concrete floored "barn" make cooking and larger bath facilities like an apt. and you have workshop and all you need.

In East Tx 84 Lumber or McCoys had good deals on basic farm use materials. Get an Ag exemption. You're building a multi-stall barn or equipment shop... Steel building with concrete foundation is really the way to go. Insulate it before Winter, add a woodstove.

its more like a particle board shed
i dont think its worth 10k
12 x 30 is 360 sq', not 700
12 x 40 is 480. there is no 700 shown
yes i could live in one, not that, i would build my own with rough sawn lumber.

There's a place in Smithville that has 800 Sq Ft shell
bldgs for 7K, delivery out to 50 miles included.
Up to six windows, you pick where you want em.
They come with or without a loft.
Might want to shop around a bit.
They finance if you need that option.

As someone else mentioned, build your own with a bathroom and perhaps a half bath.

I think the premise of the thread was could you live in a small place like this. If I were single, hell, yes. If it was just hubby and me, hell yes. Yet, I would want a damn good quality tiny house, with one and a half bathrooms.

My reasons for loving them is-

less housework
less clutter and items you don't need
economical- most of us probably could buy or build one outright and not worry about a mortgage or rent payment
cozy, yet homey feel

Purchased a 16 x 40 Lofted Barn Cabin with angled front porch for my property in Colorado Mountains. I paid $1020 for them to build it on location due to its remote location and with no improved road access. It has two lofts and I sprung for extra windows ($70 each) and 8 foot interior wall ($500)for normal ceiling height. I put foam R19 in the walls, R30 in ceiling and under floor. Temps drop to near zero and a small wood stove keeps it toasty warm in the winter. If anything, the dam thing is too tightly built, I had to add fresh air intakes for wood stove. Zero air leakage...

What would I do differently? Nothing, its perfect. Cost $16,950 complete.

What the hell, I know you are going to want to know some other stuff. I have (6) 100 watt solar panels on the roof and (4) 105ah battery bank with 40 amp MPPT charge controller, 2500watt sine wave inverter. Way more electricity than I can use in 48 hours, and that includes All lights, Dish TV with Internet, VoIP Phone, kitchen appliances like a small microwave. A backup Honda 2000i can run anything heavier like washing machine, or can top off batteries during snowstorms. (2) 100 lb propane tanks power a standby 35,000 BTU wall heater, gas stove for at least a month if all else fails. a 12 volt RV style water pump that maintains 5gpm at 60psi in PEX plumbing to sinks, shower and outside water hose. A 350 gallon black water tank is filled by rain gutters and if necessary, nearby snow melt creek full of pure clean water. It also is enough pressure for an under sink reverse osmosis water filter with 3 gallon tank for cooking and drinking. I have an outhouse, but I also have an indoor dry flush toilet for when I don't want to go outside.

Do it, you will never be sorry.
