Told I might need surgery... Thank you. I have read iffy reviews on collagen, though I have not researched it enough. I even read about collagen injections, too. Is there a specific brand you recommend? I have also read good things about bone broth, looking to make some this week! |

Told I might need surgery... I am doing ACV shots , epsom salt/baking soda/lavender/eucalyptus bath, icing knee, taking glucosamine, turmeric, bromelain, 1500 mg of vitamin C, vitamin D, iodine, magnesium, eating clean, physical therapy. What else am I missing? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71689621 I am pretty bad off, I basically living on my couch, can only stay on feet for 2 hours a day. I used to bike, hike, weightlift, Zumba. I can't walk up and down stairs. I am miserable, becoming more and more depressed, I can feel myself getting doughy. If I grocery shop, and cook dinner, I have to ice my knee the rest of the night. Though the more I rest, the better it seems. I don't know if I just need to be patient? I am watching tons of YT videos on it, worried about doing surgery. (Surgery will most likely be to cut away the injured tissue...that worries me since I have read negative reactions to that, where the pain comes back.) I am meeting with the doctor tomorrow. Shark cartilage? I am thinking of trying that next...I am just sick of the pain of just simply walking! I am also avoiding cortisone shots. I have a genetic disorder which makes me ligaments extra stretchy, and I can't afford to have weaker joints (which I read cortisone shots can do). Bone soup is one of the options I am considering. I have been eating gelatin for a month daily and it has helped a bit, but not fast enough for me. Bone soup is supposed to contain all the elements your body needs to heal connective tissues like ligaments, tendons and cartilage. It is available commercially online, but is easy to make at home with leftovers you would normally throw away after a meal. |

Told I might need surgery... I have it too. Last night was bad, as my knee is swollen to twice it's size. I put a compression brace on it ((you can buy these at most drug stores)). I like the one with Velcro). Then, elevate your leg, (put a pillow under knee.....take ibuprofen, try to stay off your knee). Walking is hard on it right now. Give yourself time to heal. It WILL heal, just give it time. The kind of shoes you wear should be comfortable. (Walking barefoot in grass helps me). Hang in there! Last Edited by ruser on 05/07/2017 02:38 PM ruser |

Told I might need surgery... Mine healed after 2 months of not leaving the house. Didnt do anything other than rest. Never got an MRI so I dont know how severe it was. I didnt have swelling or locking so it mustve been minor. Basically all you can do is let it rest for a couple months. If its still bad with no improvement after that then its not going to heal on its own and youll either have to get stem cell injections or surgery. I heard stem cells or PRP has done wonders for meniscus regeneration. |

Told I might need surgery... Mine took a month and a half. First off get a quality knee brace. As far as supplements are concerned, anything from Costco or any other main stream commercial store is mostly synthetic and useless. Check out stuff from "Standard Process". Google it. They make supplements naturally. You get the real molecules. There's a supplement called Ligaplex 1 for new bone and joint injuries. Along with the chondrosamine/chondroitin. You need to rest it and as you feel like start increasing activity and range of motion. While rehabbing, stay away from side to side movements and deep squats. You do not need to squat deeply to work your quads and glutes anyway. I was a full 3-4 months before I was anywhere near 100%. Be patient. A lot of these can be healed themselves. I would recommend not rushing to surgery. My ortho gave me one cortisone shot and gave me the option to give the shot time to work before we did an MRI. I never needed the MRI or surgery. Healed it my self. Good luck. PS: the key is there is nothing in the food nowadays. Peace |

Yeah see its always when resistance is used. I think its fine doing deep squats and lunges with bodyweight only but when you add weight is when you get injured. |

Told I might need surgery... That happened to me too--ouch. Same exact symptoms. The surgery helped a lot but it's not a cure all. Not sure how old you are, but I was mid fifties when it happened. As the doctor said, I have some mileage. Take this into consideration as far as expectations go. You will always have a delicate knee. The tear may or may not heal--cartilage doesn't have the best blood supply. It's probably best to get the surgery--you may have debris in there too--and all the little pieces of broken off cartilage will further damage the joint if it's left in there. Baby yourself for at least a year. Do not over stress your knee again. You want to be kind to it and preserve it for the rest of your life. So--swimming, cycling and other less stressful exercise. Wear a brace for a while after surgery and when exercising until you build your strength up again. And try to be as close to a healthy weight as possible. Good luck. |
