I am half blood and opposed the 70's movement to replace mascots and school emblems depicting Native Americans from colleges and universities. What worked was the redirecting of energies and talents of us young Indians into law and medicine. The results was re-emergence of stronger tribal governance and reclamation of inherent powers. We didn't need to tear down in order to build. |

Because you cannot stop progress (unles your tribe is muslim) all we can do is forgive and try to stop a repeat. It does no good to romanticize the past. Greed and dishonesty existed in the tribal leadership during 1700's. And drunkenness. On most cases Native lands were not taken but given away by our leaders. |

I would argue that for the same reason a plaque or monument of the Ten Commandments should not be removed from a State Capitol grounds particularly if reference is made to the fact of original government documents being Christian influenced. |
