We have finished working on our own payment system, and if something happens, all operations in SWIFT format will work inside the country. We have created an alternative," Nabiullina said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. She also added that 90 percent of ATMs in Russia are ready to accept the Mir payment system, a domestic version of Visa and MasterCard. Izvestia daily reported that as of January 2016, 330 Russian banks had been connected to the SWIFT alternative, the system for transfer of financial messages (SPFS). In 2014 and 2015, when the crisis in relations between Russia and the West were at their peak over Crimea and eastern Ukraine, some Western politicians urged disconnecting Russia from SWIFT. In November 2015, Nabiullina said the SPFS was close to being completed." 50% Rule, more at link above. Russia's Mir has gone European, so SWIFT being down won't hurt them one, teeny, tiny bit! |

BUSINESS betwen Germany and Russia was up like 40% last few month.. matter of fact.. EU countries want to get rid of the farcial sanctions because Russia's sanctions are ECONOMICAL in nature and hurts them much much more than a few official banned from entering the EU for "holidays & shopping".. duh! |

They are making them more self-reliant and not dependent on other nations. This will have a short term effect no doubt, but overall the longer term effects of this isolationism will be phenomenal for Russia, especially when the world economy takes a crap. |

Its not the same. Russia was asked to help. We were not invited and just inserted ourselves. Would Obama have allowed another uninvited country to come into our country and fight us? HELL NO! Somehow the US seems to invite itself into a lot of countries to fight the leaders (Insert freedom and democracy) etc. If they did that to us it would not be acceptable. Yet we do it all the time. Not just Syria. |
