Speak the Word of God to everyone you interact with

When I was in army basic combat training, our drill sergeants drilled into our heads the value of suppressive fire (or what British and Commonwealth armies formerly called "neutralization").

Suppressive fire is simply fire support laid down to threaten the enemy with casualties if he should expose himself to it. Cover the enemy position with a blanket of bullets to intimidate him into not being able to fire back qualitatively without fear of being shot.

The principle of this battle tactic needs to applied in our daily lives, knowing that, "Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8).

We can preemptively thwart the Evil One's assault with temptation by first laying down the suppressive fire of engaging a person with the Gospel.

Instead of giving an unregenerate person that we must interact with in our daily lives an opportunity to entice us with sin, we must seize the initiative of the interaction by engaging said person with the Gospel.

Suppose you are traveling far from home and you are at a truck stop, an airport, or a restaurant and for whatever reason you are required to interact with a beautiful woman. To aid in resisting temptation, immediately make it clear that you are a fire-breathing Christian who inhales God's grace and exhales His Gospel, and that the only kind of exchange you want with this lady is to conduct your business and share the Word of God with her.

In so doing, you make it abundantly clear that you are off limits for sinful activity and the blood of her soul will not be required at your hand for cowardly neglecting to speak the life-saving Gospel.

Maybe your coworkers or or high school or college peers would seduce you to laugh at their dirty jokes or partake in some shady business deal. If you are speaking the Word of God with these people all the time, this acts as suppressive fire against the Enemy by intimidating people who would approach you to partake in their evil deeds.

Lay down the suppressive fire of speaking the Word of God to everyone you interact with. Temptations to sin exponentially diminish in this way.

As the old adage goes, the best defense is a good offense.
