[link to en.wikipedia.org] I watched it live, it was pretty trippy...I can't say I paid that much attention, but it doesn't seem like they laid there that long. I was an EMT for a while in the early 90s and when something like this went down, or they even suspected there might be a problem, we were always within a block...back from the action, but a sprint from helping whoever needed medical care, once the cops cleared the scene. (Something to note, back then gangs weren't really using heavy firepower, so most of these situations meant we were patching scrapes from people ducking out of the way.) I can't imagine it would be any different there, not with that kind of coverage (we listened to the police band), and with the amount of time the shootout took, EMT folks would be itching to get in and move on to other situations. Nothing gets at you more than just sitting there...waiting. EMTs work for a private company, and it's a similar deal as truckers. Your company might have a deal with the local PD, but if you're just sitting there, you're losing money.
