King James was a much bigger publishing operation so it was circulated the most. Bit if you follow academic guidelines for historical document then NIV was translated the closest to the death of Christ. They really don't differ enough to be salvation endangering. But for codes, I think you just need to find a program that can pull it from the original unless you read Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic.
