I think you will find that if the root of supposed criminal origin is removed, all subsequent actions are invalid and at the very least punitive.

It could get ugly for the UK if he is not allowed to walk pending a decision from the Swedish high court not to prosecute, which would appear to be the case.

And then there is also Trump's AG Sessions:

Asked whether it was a priority for the justice department to arrest Assange “once and for all”, Sessions told a press conference in El Paso, Texas, on Thursday: “We are going to step up our effort and already are stepping up our efforts on all leaks. This is a matter that’s gone beyond anything I’m aware of. We have professionals that have been in the security business of the United States for many years that are shocked by the number of leaks and some of them are quite serious.”

He added: “So yes, it is a priority. We’ve already begun to step up our efforts and whenever a case can be made, we will seek to put some people in jail.”

Yeah i was thinking the same. Despite this news i suspect he would be arrested upon leaving for some other yet unkown charge on behalf of the USA...

If the US really want him they need to let the UK deport him to Australia and let the Australians deal with it. I think they owe Trump a favor so they might go for this.

If they try and extradite him from the UK it would take years and years going through the courts, they might not get him until another President is in office in 5 years.

US authorities have been investigating Assange and WikiLeaks since at least 2010 when it released, in cooperation with publications including the Guardian a million classified cables from US embassies leaked by US army whistleblower Chelsea Manning.

Trump himself told an interviewer: “I think it’s disgraceful, I think there should be like death penalty or something.”

UPDATE: Swedish prosecutors have decided to end the rape investigation into Julian Assange and lift the Europe-wide arrest warrant against him, but UK police say they will still arrest him.

Over to you US, are you going to criminalise a Journalist who published what was given? This will be an attack on the very foundations of a democratic country if you charge Assange.

Let's be honest, who'd want to go to Sweden nowadays?

Trump, Sessions, and Pompeo have ALL said they wanted Assange on charges. And then there is Trump who is on record saying that Assange should be subject to execution.

The UK could still extradite him to Sweden so they can reopen the case
