Le wut? How can ice be flammable?

clathrate ie methane hydrate ie methane trapped in water molecule matrix

basically the same stuff as nat gas only different

If this is scaled up to industrial scale the arabs better learn riding their camels again.

No more oil money for islamic terrorists.

And the gigatonnes of methane in the oceans could last us up to 500 years at current consumption levels.

and since the biggest terrorists making money from oil is the pentagon do not count on the death of oil any time soon

Re: Beijing claims landmark success in mining flammable ice
These are methane clathrates, not "flammable ice". Why do people feel the need to dumb things down? And this is dangerous: if a mass of clathrates was destabilized by such mining, it could inject gigatonnes of methane into the atmosphere. Methane is a far more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2, although it's not as long-lived. And if you burn it, it still yields CO2. We need nuclear fusion urgently.

Good luck china citizen you gonna need it

The USA has more of it than anybody sitting off the Atlantic coast. We have no need for oil. It's only about control.

It's allegedly deep sea methane ice...

Kept 'frozen' at great depths due to temp and pressure...

This.

Clathrate. Methane hydrate.
Funny how 'social security' has a shortfall...but never WELFARE!

Gimme a break.

Somehow, we can always afford ALL types of welfare (even for millions of illegal immigrants!), plus billions in foreign aid to nations that hate us...BUT...social security is a "problem".

Nah, the problem is the goobermint...Unknown AC.

There was a movie or book. Probably movie where one of the characters was trying to get the methane out of ice, caused a disaster, etc. - the full climate change. This reminds me of that fictional story.

Methane hydrates are nothing new, and if some chink bastards can 'mine' them, then anyone can. Furthermore, it's methane not oil. Last time I checked, the vast majority of vehicles run on oil, not chinked-out methane. If and when cars are powered soley by methane, then American frackers can stop flaring their's and start selling it too. Nice try chink-loving-piece-of-shit-OP-bith-motherfucker.

This could ruin the Oil Apocalypse coming in 5 to 50 years.
Though methane gas is NOT equal to oil in powering vehicles.

Oil can only be useful as an energy source if the energy contained in the product (ie: transport fuel) is greater than the energy required to extract, refine and deliver the fuel to the end user.

How can you possibly think this is a game changer or the fuel of the future though.

It's not even renewable. Here are a few things that will make you realize the real future of energy.

Mini Reactors Could Make Affordable Fusion Power a Reality by 2030

[link to futurism.com (secure)]

The small, spherical Tokamak ST40 reactor is on track to reach its next goal of hitting the 15,000,000 °C (27,000,000 °F) mark this autumn.
When it does, we will be one step closer to achieving fusion power on a commercial scale.
YEARS, NOT DECADES”

Earlier this month the newest fusion reactor in the U.K., Tokamak Energy’s ST40, achieved first plasma. This milestone event on the road to fusion energy signals the viability of the company’s overall timetable.

Elon Musk: Tesla’s Solar Roofs Will Be Cheaper Than Regular Roofs & Have “Infinity Warranty”

Worried about cost? The tiles are guaranteed literally forever.
As we previously reported, studies by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and others suggest that 25 percent of the United States’ energy needs could be filled by rooftop solar installations alone.

In 10 Years, Wind Energy May Be Cheaper Than Fossil Fuels

As more and more Fortune 500 companies have embraced renewables, the U.S. has more than doubled the amount of electricity produced with wind energy since 2010.

Elon Musk Just Gave Us a Glimpse of His Latest Tool in the Fight Against Fossil Fuels

Elon Musk appeared at the latest TED conference last week to discuss his multitudinous ventures. Not only did he unveil the first look at Tesla's all-electric semi-trucks, he also announced plans to build four more Gigafactories.

New “Breakthrough Work” Finally Lets Us Trigger Artificial Photosynthesis

A New Device Could Utterly Transform How We Produce Energy

Scientists have developed a new device that's capable of harnessing energy from infrared wavelengths and heat. This device, which also functions as an IR emitter, could change the future of energy production.

The tiny thermophotovoltaic device — an 8 × 8 array of individually controllable pixels, each measuring 120 × 120 microns — uses a man-made material with special properties, called “metamaterial,” to very efficiently absorb and emit IR wavelengths. The researchers also designed the device so that it could be reconfigured on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

And there are many more breakthroughs in these techs that ive not shown here.

Anything that is based on a fossil fuel like this flammable ice, is going to be obsolete in about 10 years.
