Fiction from a 2015 world news daily article. The Cotopaxi was the ship found in the Gobi dessert in the movie "close encounters of the third kind"

^This +1 it was a hoax May 18, 2015.. & still most likely a hoax two years later.

The laws of salvage dictate that 'if you found it, you're responsible for it' By tugging the ship back out into the shipping lanes.. Cuba wouldn't be responsible for the wreck & The New York Evening gets an interesting 'puff-piece'.

It's one thing to 'find' a mystery ship.. totally different monkey once you start digging into the 'legal' mysteries & consequences (costs) surrounding it.

The SS Cotopaxi was built in 1918 by the Great Lakes Engineering Works for the Clinchfield Navigation Company.. On December 1 1925, two days after it left Charleston, the ship sent its final distress message that the ship was 'sinking' after taking on water in a tropical storm.

Cuba would be responsible for her salvage & disposal.. unless she suddenly emerged from a cloud of mystery 'upright' & adrift in Bermuda folk-lore..

The Great Lakes Engineering Works(GLEW) was also commissioned to build the Edmond Fitzgerald.. a Great Lakes mystery that every one would love to 'find' but would certainly costs way to many millions to salvage.

Some ships are best left 'lost'.
