As far as dog meat being banned from the festival, I doubt that is true -- they are just saying that to shut people up

That being said, I've traveled a lot of China. They're not all into it and actually feel much the same as the rest of the world. I see a lot of people out in the evening walking their pets (dogs) who look in good shape with healthy coats.. I spent considerable time in Hebei province and knew of a group who would have a fundraiser go to pet stores where birds were kept in cages and buy them only to release them.

Politically it helps for western countries to hold a less than favourable view of the Chinese at the moment, it helps garner support for upcoming war.

At least you have a brain. Most people believe what they read in the media. They think they are doing this cause a big favour while eating hamburgers or chicken nuggets.

this is huge progress for China and I'm hopeful they'll stop slaughtering cats too. I've been to China and visited the Beijing "night market" where practically any animal is sold--including dog. It's just been their culture and I'm glad to see they are awakening to the pain and suffering they inflict on their fellow beings.

A quick look on youtube and you can see how barbaric nuggets production is.

I go fishing and hunting. I'd like to think I've never eaten any Cats or Dogs but there's probably no way I can be sure. Of those animals that I killed or what was store bought I don't recall measuring their level of suffering but with some confidence can say it was upward from zero. I'm not saying I went out of my way to maximize its suffering as a way of enhancing the taste, quite the opposite, try to make it quick and clean when possible. But the animal will suffer undoubtedly.

It's all well and good to hold a opposing view of this but if people were to look beneath the styrofoam packaging and clear wrap on their supermarket fillet steak and know the whole story the lines of distinction between what goes on in Yulin would be a lot less defined when compared to anywhere else. I mean people boil crabs and lobsters alive. Oysters are consumed while living. Fuck. Even plants react to sounds of eating and react accordingly.

Point is we all have "blood" on our hands.
