Re: Are Christianity and Taoism compatible?
I consider myself a born again Christian. I began my walk in different ways. I have studied many paths.

I believe taoism to be a philosophy which is compatible with the teachings of Jesus. I have read they ARE compatible and I have read they are not. Please give me your thoughts on this.

I think of it the same way that there are messianic J^ws that there are taoist Christians...

What do you think?

Taoism is not compatible at all, because it takes your focus off the salvation of Jesus death on the cross and God's grace and has you in control through useless chants and meditations
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37927777

Taoism doesn't chant. The bible tells us to meditate on the word, the word is God, God is Tao, God is All.

Re: Are Christianity and Taoism compatible?
Gnosis metaphor and real Christianity, is Taoism basically, with variations because the Egyptian gnostics weren't a hierarchy, they took turns, even male and female, sharing their insights, dreams and visions and it was like reading everyone's NDE's, putting all the different pieces of puzzle together, turning the pyramids upside down to Equality and Freedom. The zionists and King David, Moses, Joshua were all the stories of the Atonist branch of Egyptian pharoahs.

So its free forming with all of us, we're all the Spirit/Soul/Intellect, we're all infinite branches of the infinite vine.

Go within.

Of course not. Taoism is just another false religion leading you to hell.

Next you'll say you're into Chrislam.

You stay away from those eastern mystics if you know what's good for you, they will take you to depths of depravity you don't want to reach.

Also you need to look over your salvation. It sounds like it didn't take seeing you are ready to now embrace one of Satans religions.

You've been cautioned, what happens next is on your head.

Re: Are Christianity and Taoism compatible?
In the bible, the figure of John the Baptist, even perhaps Peter, represents the Essenes or the Judaic, patriarchal and rather harsh and severe gnostic branch. But Christ and John represent "out of egypt" gnosis.

And equality. Basically Christ is like unto Sophia, the roots going to the underworld to free and rise up the lower dimensions or denser multiverse realities, and the branches reaching to the higher planes and home, from lower mind to higher, progression.

And its alot of Mother and Equality involved, with Father and freedom as well. The best of both.

Off planet, this concept of what is called Christ consciousness, or what was The Way. The Way is cosmic and higher human.

It's been corrupted by the powerful bad guys basically. To be a control mechanism that is even more powerful control on the minds of humans than politics is. Even stronger than their promotion of kings and allegiance to the country or king, is RELIGION.

They put just enough truth and love in, to lure innocent and loving souls, and then corrupt it to dark side, harshness and wars and abuse of humanity.

With the figure of Christ, which is a metaphor for ascension, its the story of human/man, and achieving Higher Mind, I won't rule out that immanuel or a True Higher Up Teacher/Hero, Michael figure, came in.

Because we also manifest here, and what would happen if for 10 000 years an enslaved humanity kept envisioning and yearning for and believing that the answers would be given, a hero would come in, their Savior.

Perhaps a series of Hero's would come in.

I love Christ, the Love and Peace and Humble Servant Higher Up, Immanuel.

If it turns out to be strictly metaphor, then inner Christ, or Higher Self and Source will not disappoint anyone. But walking in the footsteps of Christ in unique and individual ways, waking up in the trenches and grabbing his hand, actually brings souls back home, but they have to either turn the Old Testament into pure gnosis and metaphor, or drop it. Its not a good book.

Re: Are Christianity and Taoism compatible?
You will probably have a lot of Christian despise this idea. The reason why is that we believe the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. And we serve a jealous God. I understand that Taoism is simply the philosophy of human spirit. But I would think that problem would be the same as it is with these fads within Christianity itself. When you start worshiping the product of God instead of God, due to earthly benefit, then it could become idolatry.

However I associate everything with God. I am a huge science fan. However everything I research I will consider how it is used by or helps God. I always cringe at the extreme sides that don't realize how close science and God really are.

So I could take Taoism and relate it to God while putting him first. Just because it is not in the cannon doesn't mean it does not make perfect sense and align with the teachings of God. I will get flamed for this response by ultra religious. But it is only an opinion.

How does Taoism deal with the concept of Grace?
 Quoting: B@Z

Great question... I found this... I will read this and see

From a Taoist perspective we simplify action down and focus closer to the Awareness side of this equation. We do this for flexibility. The more action based a person is, the less options they have in life. Taoist’s love both options and potential. Yet a Taoist accepts action at the most graceful moments, since action when done well also creates potential in addition to only using potential. Careless actions based purely on consumption merely use up potential compared to graceful actions that actually build up potential and options.

Here is the Christian perspective on grace:

1And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
 Quoting: Ephesians 2:1-10

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. - 1 Cor 1:18

The immortality concept in Taoism is not a metaphysical one. It is an "alchemical transformation" by which your metabolism stops perceiving time.

Taoism is not a religion, it is a way of life, literally, a Chinese farmer's life. (all Taoistic elements have their origins in Chinese farming and the ancient botanists, Taoism existed long before Lao Tzu)

Re: Are Christianity and Taoism compatible?
Tao is absolutely compatible with Christ. Gnostic Christians of the first century knew it as 'The Way as Exemplified by Christ Jesus'

Tao knows human spirit(uality). Few Christians know the Spirit of God.

Christianity has so many variants; hard to make such a blanket claim. Asceticism is strong in Eastern Orthodox just like other Eastern traditions.

Thank you as long as there is room for Christ and the Holy Spirit then we are good to go!

...

I am ... Tao explains 'everything/all' all is God, why wouldn't Tao be God? God equals Jesus and Jesus equals the way. I don't know. I just don't see the contradiction.
 Quoting: A Friend

The contradiction is, Taoism is atheistic. Nature wasn't created by a supreme deity according to Taoism. The universe is seen as an infinite play of energies, not a creation of some god.

I'm terribly confused at this point. If Tao says you can gain immortality without Jesus is it not correct. I have a lot of research to do it seems.

I love Jesus

We are all eternal whether we get there through Christ or not.

The thing is we aren't what we think we are. We are not this mind or this body. In the end the individuality you hold so dear is not as precious or desirable as you think. You will gladly give it up to dissolve in the blissful light of the lord.
