here is an experiment you can try yourself:

get yourself on a train, and, sit at the BACK of the train, that is opposite to the direction of travel.
Wait until the train is at full speed and then walk towards the front of the train.

Does the train, even though it is travelling much faster than you can walk, hit you from behind ? NO.

i have considered this question for some years and never found a complete answer.

anyone care to field this supposition?

it would also mean that to cover 500 miles of ground in an hour, flying with the rotation of the earth, the plane would traveling 1500 mph. It would be an impossible feat to fly against the rotation of the moving atmosphere.

and it would also mean that a skydiver, exiting a plane, would be strongly pushed the direction of the rotating earth and trying to deviate from that direction would be nearly impossible.
