Re: I got tricked into spending $99 a year for Amazon Prime:(
maybe its just the super shitty mail service here, but i never, ever get packages in 2 days..never.

4 days is considered quick.

5-6 days is "normal" for a prime delivery.

i do 60 orders a month through work
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47200636

60 X 10 (nominal shipping cost) per month = 600.00 per month

versus, 99.00 per year
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73065348

yeah, and actually got in on sale for $79. which is why work agreed to pay for it.
still a scam in my mind, 2 day delivery is the major advantage and it takes 4-6 days to get anything..

again wanting to state that south florida mail is probably the worst in the whole country and that may be my issue, not prime.

im out. y'all have a safe weekend!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47200636

I live in South Florida and get my stuff in two days every time. We have an Amazon fulfillment center down here, so if it comes prime, you will get it that quick.

I guarantee I have spent well over $1500 on Amazon over the last year and a half and haven't ever had something not show up when it was supposed to.
Just my experience though.

If you have access to an email that ends in edu you can get it free for six months and then half price for each year.

Also, it seems like some people here don't completely understand how Prime works. Not everything on Amazon is Prime eligible. Some things aren't and will ship slower. I believe it will only be Prime eligible if it comes from a fulfillment center, and it will only be two-days if that center is near you.

fuck amazon prime, stupid business model that tries to force people into a years subscription. there have been things i could not buy on amazon before because they were prime exclusives. it seems the prime exclusives are getting worse, targeting extremely popular products.

Its the best deal around. I do most of my Christmas shopping on there and never leave my house. No more mall lines. Its great. Movies, original shows, music, free shipping on Sundays. Heck, I've even bought tissues and paper towels. I'm pretty sure the mail carrier hates me. You literally can have anything sent.
I do like Costco and BJ's still but I hate the lines and the physical workout.

What a dirty company Amazon is for ticking me to spend $99 a year. I'm not spending $10.99 a month just to get 2 day shipping. What a bunch of jerks. I know they didn't say up front that I would be charged that much. They tricked me, those assholes! angry

Amazon Prime is great, free tv etc.. There is more to it than just free shipping.

Super value for those who use it. Super.

You idiots don't know how to use PRIME. And BTW: it IS usually 2 days shipping, with deliveries on Sunday included free. In many cases I've gotten OVERNIGHT delivery at extra charge!

Beyond that, there tens of thousands of movies/TV shows you can also watch free. And if you want music? Well....

All it takes is a couple of orders for heavy items [where shipping alone would normally be $40-50] for PRIME to pay for itself.

i agree, prime is a scam....2 day shipping is bullshit...always 4-5 days regardless.

guess the movie library is ok
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47200636

Complete bullshit. Have ordered hundreds of times. Only once has something not showed up in 2 days....and that was around Christmas time.

Cloud storage, unlimited music, 2 day shipping and prime video for $99...that's a deal, anyway you look at it.

Why the hell would anyone want to buy anything from Amazon? Why would you support Jeff Bozo who also owns the Washington Post? While you're at it, why not donate some cash to CNN and help them further tear apart our country?

It's been nearly a year since I purchased anything from Amazon. There are other vendors to buy from. I get almost everything I need from Ebay. It's often cheaper, ships faster than Amazon, and I usually get free shipping without having to pay them $99 a year. I've never had problems with Ebay, but find somewhere else if you don't like them. Just stop contributing to Amazon for the sake of convenience.

It's an even bigger waste when you're in Canada. I had it last year, and if my order had 8 items in it, I got 8 separate deliveries! You didn't even get the option that you do when you're not a Prime member which is to have everything shipped in one order.

The other 'perk' for Prime here is that you can store photos on Amazon. NO thanks!

So really, there was nothing of benefit because an order without the Prime only takes a couple of days, and it comes in ONE shipment.

I agree. As much as I think of amazon along the same lines as Google and Facebook for instance, Prime can certainly be a a money saver, especially when used by multiple family members.

We have three people on our account, now living at three different locations. Because of his unusual work schedule, one of my sons relies heavily on Prime deliveries, which he often receives a number of times a week.

We also live on a relatively small island that is overcrowded, has a limiting public transportation system, and a less-than-optimal assortment of food and general goods stores to choose from. Put it this way...we don't even have a walmart or sam's club.

While I, myself, typically use Prime maybe once or twice a month, the savings and convenience is still an undeniable help. Take bounty paper towels, for instance. For under $23 I can get a dozen mega rolls of 2=5...which can last me 6 months. Prime has a huge selection of organic foods that local stores don't carry, and the same foods at cut rate prices.

Shopping this way cuts down on going to the store for one item, and coming home with other things that meet your eye.

The savings and convenience it affords all three of us allows each one of us to subscribe to, and pay for, access to other family plans such as cell phone, netflix, and other services we all share. I still pay for Prime, while my two boys now pay for everything else I get to use, including my Internet access.

As others have mentioned, Prime includes a wide range of free media to choose from.

The one thing I DON'T LIKE about Prime that has me kinda agreeing with OP on is the additional $14.99 a month they charge if I want to order their Fresh Prime grocery delivery service. Still, I'm tempted to enroll because they offer same and next day delivery of almost all the fresh organic produce, dairy and meat I can't find anywhere else, again at reasonable prices. The last time I went food shopping, again i was faced with a limited choice of organic foods, with no organic meats this time around. Then I had to call UBER to get get my severely limited choice of groceries home.

For that same 14.99 that UBER charged me once, I could be receiving almost everything on my list as many times a month as needed, at no extra charge.

This is 2017. The day will come when all we'll need to receive everything we need is a 3D coordinate and a teleportation device...direct from the farm to your surface of choice, with free delivery.

For now, I'll continue to subscribe to amazon, because their the only service out there that meets my needs. Sad, but true.

Just call your company (visa/mc etc) and tell them what happened.

Um, I am a very low income poor person, so your premise is unsubstantiated. I know plenty of people who have more money than they know what to do with, who don't care to read fine print because instructions and all that takes up to much of their precious time. Some of them are high IQ people with little common sense.

If you think they are not prone to FRANTIC complaining for things they got themselves into in the first place, you just might have limited experience understanding human nature.

Living hand to mouth has taught me HOW to get the most bang for my buck. For me it's all about compromise, mixed in with due-diligence research and ingenuity.

Just because someone is poor doesn't mean they can't think for themselves.

Just open up an Amazon credit card that pays 5% cash back on all Amazon purchases. It only pays the 5% if you're a Prime member. For me this pays the Prime fee of $99 and puts cash in my pocket at the end of the year. You'd have to spend $2000 on Amazon in the year to earn $100 to cover the membership fee but I do that in a few month easily then the rest is free money.
