Anonymous Coward User ID: 54093493 United States 05/19/2017 09:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | its a shitty quality file. it actually loses sonic qualities Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1542137 they condensed music back when hard drives where small and when napster was on the scene. honestly it killed the music industry. AAC and other compressed formats are barely any better, and are still constrained by patents, copyright, and other license restrictions. They are only marginally better. Yes, there are other formats that are completely lossless, but they are relatively HUGE and the vast majority of streamed and broadcast audio that everybody listens too is compressed with lossy codec like mp3 or AAC mp3 is not dead at all |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74925071 United States 05/19/2017 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I use free software Audacity to take WAVs or MP3s and increase their bass or treble, make the sound stronger, and then save as a 128 MP3. It is free of charge, very rich in sound; and definitely no need for a AAC, which isn't even compatible in many playing devices. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 66534659 Canada 05/19/2017 09:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to use 320k but with 3.99.5 I'm finally happy with the V0 performance. MP3 is not dead, and will not die. There are so many devices out there that use it. |

It's only at low bitrates 128k and lower that they have any advantage. 128k sucks btw |

Therefore this entire article is Pro- Apple PROPAGANDA to confuse you. MP3 will still be used extensively. Last Edited by Useless Cookie Eater on 05/19/2017 09:44 PM |
NRVNAFAN User ID: 27343709 United States 05/19/2017 10:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The new age computers and data will be light based. Even the processing unit will only be reflective tunnels that direct light through processing gateways. It will be known as speed of light processing and data units. Micro lasers even tho we have huge ones for weapons. The only thing used to extract data at any point will be chip mirror sensors that blast off another micro laser or places the data onto a screen. The ram will be a reflective chamber that holds light that is loaded with all hard drive data on start up. At any give time if data is requested a the mirror sensors will load the data into micro laser lights for processing. Wire resistance and mass slows down computing. Anonymous Coward User ID: 74911793 United States 05/19/2017 11:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I still have multiple copies of the library I made of all my cd's from the 90s. Used to belong to BMG and Columbia house too. Started my alternative collection with Pearl Jam, Nirvana etc. At some point I ripped every CD I owned. Now I have em uploaded to Apple. Haven't paid the sub this year though for itunes match. I also still have em as MP3s on multiple hard drives just in case. These days though you can just youtube any song you want to hear or use a streaming service. |

There have been many codecs with better performance and compression but nobody uses them - why? For the same reason that people still put up with the hassle of wondoze and f'n even FLASH(!?!?) - EVERYBODY uses it out of habit and tradition because everybody else does too. |

They now prefer it to be digital so that they can control and strip the individuals ability to do with it as they please. I will always store it myself whether it be a vinyl album on my shelf, reel to reel tape, or the digital copy stored on my media server. I am not a fan of streaming, I want absolute control. Quoting: BrokenTech vinyl is making a comeback you know. |

Maybe we should have stuck with vinyl. Quoting: Mehitable 66586603 I scored so much vinyl from my dad when they moved to warmer climate and sold the childhood home. Over 300 vinyls from 60's, 70's, and some early 80's. “When you’re dead you’re dead, but you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something” -John Dunsworth |
