Windows update stopped working for most Windows 7 computers I came across. I had to run some manual updates in order to get Windows update working again.
I think it had to do with the GWX (get Windows ten) files sent to all Windows 7 computers.
Many people were probably un-patched without realizing it.
Windows update would just hang and continue to search for updates and never completing.

Want to upgrade now?

Back in January when I was having the Win7 updates issues I found a post that helped me fix the issue. Luckily I fixed it before wannacry came out.

Every time I have run across a failed Win 7 update issue, the two patches that fixed it every time were KB3020369 and then KB3172605. If you run the patch and it sits at checking for updates when you run it, kill the wusa task, then stop and start the update service. Run the patch again, it will install.

So it wasn't just me? I would occasionally try to run manual updates but it would never fetch the updates, Windows 7 Pro.

The first thing I do when I get a computer is turn off the automatic updates.

Windows pissed me off the other day by restarting my computer to install updates the minute I walked out of the room so guess I'm safe.

Any steps to now update Win 7 without it updating your sys to 10?

I'm curious as to why upgrading is a bad idea. As this illustrates, security is the main issue.

I tuned off updates sept 2015. W7 enterprise with malwarebytes is all u need. Fuck bill gates and his virusware

There's a manual fix, but it's not like they advertise it; you have to go looking and find it.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Micro$oft needs to be slapped silly with a class action suit over the GWX forced upgrade BS and all the ensuing problems.
