What if God was looking for friends He could trust? If I were in his position, I'd create a universe based on ultimate free will. It would appear to the vain and pseudointellectual to be chaos, but to those who stop and listen, She makes herself quite evident.

Maybe Life is a dangerous, roller coaster ride, or some similar metaphor, to those who haven't had time to stop and let the Almighty introduce Himself. It can be a lonely horror, or, it can be an exhilarating, scary card game of Trust.

The Apostles KNEW people thought they were fools. And to all the "practical" people of the time, they probably were.

One final thing - If the Big Guy was looking for friends he could Trust, he wouldn't just walk up to people and say, "Dude! I'm God." Why? because if a person REALLY, ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY KNEW THERE WAS A GOD, he could never experience another moment of free will. That person would be like the jester in court, only pretending to have one up on the monarch, when in fact his life hung by a thread. There is NO friendship with an underling, only fear of transgression. So, nobody really knows if God is real.

In the mean time, enjoy yourself, don't hurt anybody, or steal their stuff. And listen, when you can, for that "still small voice." You never know..

Interesting points.

Technologically speaking, I especially like the 'node' part, because it seems to hold within it an explanation for 'synchronicities'.

As electric, energetic beings, this day and age finds us living in a 'sea' of all manner of waveforms coming from all directions.

Add this to considerations of supra-consciousness, and the many ways we are 'connected' leaves us with an infinite dimensional 'surface' of things we could be connecting with.

Take the development of this thread, for instance, which simply asked: why bother?

We enter in to find a valid statement based upon logic, which uncannily unfolds to reveal layer upon layer of other thought-provoking themes.

Have we all been 'drawn here' because we 'connected' in some way to the very 'essence' of what was 'pre'destined to unfold here?

It leads me to wonder how many other 'connected' people may be having similar thoughts, despite not realizing this thread exists.

I also considered that the translation of the word 'hate' was faulty.

The Bible I finally found 'that speaks to me' is George M. Lansa's Eastern text translation from the language Jesus spoke: Aramaic.

Luke 14:26

"He that comes to me and does not put aside his father and mother and brothers and sisters and his wife and children and even his own life cannot be a disciple of mine."

Lukes 14:28-30 and 33 helps explains it:

"For which of you wishes to build a tower does not at first consider it's cost, to see if he has enough to finish it?

Lest after he has laid the foundation, he is not able to finish it, and all who see it will mock him,

Saying, This man began to build, but was not able to finish.

14-33: So every man of you who would not leave all his possessions cannot be a disciple to me"

The word 'hate' has become an unfortunate translation err...as seen in the old game 'telephone'.

What Jesus was saying is that he rather have disciples who are not only willing to spread the good news far and wide, but are willing to 'stick around' to ensure the message is understood fully.

That spreading His new concepts and teachings would prove fruitless if a community hears them, but is then abandoned because events in the disciple's personal life calls him away.

It's about self-less dedication for the greater good. Not any different from some job requirements today, when a candidate's personal ties could hinder completing his work.

That's why I love this translation.

In the Aramaic, the words 'rope' and 'camel' are almost identical. It makes more sense for a rope to pass into the eye of a needle than a camel...although either word still suits the purpose of the saying's meaning.
