Re: TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN - Discuss the past, present and future of all things Twin Peaks
Gotta get caught up on this thread before Parts 3 & 4 air tonight. So I'm going to comment on some of the other messages that have been left and then get on with a synopsis and list of questions for Part 2...

I am re-watching Fire Walk With Me for the 5th time and discovering new things! Fascinating!
 Quoting: exlibris

Yeah, the more you watch, the more you see. The movie is indeed chock full of interesting things that Lynch put there for a reason.

There's a great fan edit done with most of the deleted and extended scenes from The Missing Pieces woven back into the movie (where they belonged according to the original script). You can find a torrent of it online - I tried to post a link, but it won't let me. Just do a search online for Twin.Peaks.FWWM.Q2.Extended.Fanedit.72nope0p.mkv and you should be able to find it (it takes a while to download, though).

OR...

You can always just read the original shooting script for Fire Walk With Me that still has all of the deleted scenes (and even shows you where they would have been in the movie) right here...

[link to www.lynchnet.com]

so, i'm into season 2 now, this thread has helped me notice a lot more little things in the original series.

also... listening to James and the girls sing the song in the den made me think of this... great album, and a David Lynch project... enjoy!

 Quoting: alienbaby

Thanks for posting that. I hadn't heard it for awhile and man, it sounds better now than ever. The entire album - Dark Night Of The Soul - is just fantastic with some other collaborators besides Lynch that are wonderful. HIGHLY recommended!

I'm glad that the thread has helped you. I hope you join us soon for some in depth discussions about the new show.

Now, I see your Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse and I raise you one Industrial Symphony No. 1. This was done (I think) in between Seasons 1 and 2. It features Julie Cruise and some of the cast of Twin Peaks as well as scenes from Wild At Heart. Turn your volume up and your lights out.

The original series had The Nightingale with that tinge of 1950's culture to augment the music.

James with the "James Dean" -esque appeal.

Audrey's shoes.

Cooper's gumshoe routine.

It all fit together.

I don't get the music though in the new series and how it helps to augment the shows environment.

Watching the new series is like being rung through a Kubrickian-like tale of psychological twists and turns through the human psyche for about an hour and then wrapping it up like an ABC Afterschool Special.....,in Oslo....scratching 1dunno1

book
 Quoting: Plan Z

IMHO, you're just so wrong on so many levels. First off, did you watch Fire Walk With Me? Because the music in the movie was completely different than that from the original series. The new show feels more like the movie than the old television series.

And I realize that we're all entitled to our opinions so I will respect yours. But you can't expect me to not counter everything you said. So here goes...

It's not the 1950's anymore. Back in 1989, it might have still been nice for some Grease memories and the show it's own feel then, but this is NOW. I am SO glad it's not the same as it was.

It's gonna be hard for James to be all "James Dean-esque" since he has apparently been in a motorcycle accident and is quieter now. I doubt that he even rides anymore.

We haven't seen Audrey yet so maybe she'll wear some nice shoes for you (I didn't know that Twin Peaks had foot fetish appeal, but sure - why not).

Like James, it's gonna be hard for Cooper to have a "gumshoe routine" at the moment. But keep watching - maybe he'll go in search of Audrey's shoes for you before the new show ends.

I'm sure it will all fit together. You might want to reserve judgement on things like that until we see the full 18 hours.

The music is working fine for me. I'm sure we'll get much more from Angelo as it gets going. There's been plenty of moments so far with the music adding greatly to the scene - like Evil Cooper's arrival in the car.

Hmmm...maybe you're watching the wrong show. Are you sure you're on the new Twin Peaks? Because there's nothing "Kubrickian" about the new parts. It's a Lynchian tale of psychological twists and turns through the human psyche for about an hour. And there's been no wrap-up - let alone an ABC After School Special kind of wrap-up - because IT ISN'T FINISHED YET!

hidingDavid in drag
 Quoting: Goofy for God

Don't be skeered, Goofy. It's not contagious.

His original role on Twin Peaks - FBI Agent Denise Bryson formerly Dennis Bryson - was before he was in The X-Files and has to be one of the first transgender characters on television.

I can assure you that this was NOT done as part of the current "agenda' and is just David Lynch exploring some of the stranger sides of life. The character was first developed in 1990. Enjoy it for what it is.

Went to HS with Sherilyn Fenn, she's part of the Quatro family, her aunt is Leather Tuscadero.....
 Quoting: ~kpm~

Suzie......
 Quoting: Mike Ehrmantraut

That would be Suzi. But SERIOUSLY? I never knew that. Suzi Quatro is her aunt and brother Michael - whose first two albums are progressive rock classics - is her uncle. His stuff is worth listening to. I'll post my favorite song from each here - what the hell (it's all related at this point and we're starting to rack up some nice related videos).

Twin Peak?

Blue Velvet.

 Quoting: Mike Ehrmantraut

Uh-oh! Somebody's been drinking. It's Twin Peaks. There's two of them.

Haven't thought about the Candy Colored Clown in awhile. I think going back through ALL of Lynch's stuff may be in order once this new Twin Peaks ride is over.

I wanted to like the new series, but based on the first episode, my opinion is "Meh."

The premiere was uber-violent, had a really dark vibe and was even more needlessly weird than the original series. And there was hardly a hint of the black humor that was seen through the old episodes. Apart from that, it was a bit depressing to see how much the original cast members had aged.
 Quoting: Doc Savage

Sorry that you didn't like it, Doc. I think it's fantastic and better than ever. Did you see the movie - Fire Walk With Me? Because that's where Twin Peaks took the dark turn away from network television dictates into what the artist truly wanted for it. Where is where I thought it went from a great television show to an even greater piece of visual art. And now, I think the new show follows up on that perfectly.

Hey BEAST, nice thread.

So far I'm really liking the new season.

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]
 Quoting: MyNameIsRickMoranis

Cool! You know I've got nothing to say to that comment, but RIGHT ON!

If you know ANYTHING about David Lynch you should know that he could care less what you or I or anyone thinks of what he does. He is an artist - a TRUE artist - and one who takes BIG chances. And that's why he is so adored by some people.

There's many more things to discuss than have been touched on yet on this thread. So here's a synopsis of Part 2 - what happened in the show, what we learned, and what we have new to discuss...

PART 2

---OPENING CREDITS - Laura Palmer's face superimposed over the falls and then as it fades - brand new shots of the falls, the red curtains from The Waiting Room/Black Lodge, and the floor of The Waiting Room/Black Lodge.
---Buckhorn, South Dakota - Bill Hastings is in his holding cell and is visited by his wife Phyllis; she tells him she knows that he was having an affair with Ruth, but Bill swears he was only in her apartment in a dream; Bill then says he knows about her affair with George (meaning his lawyer) and maybe somebody else, too; Phyllis leaves and sees George on her way out of the police station and tells him to stop by later; we see Bill in his cell and then the camera pans two cells over and we see a blackened figure of a bearded man which disappears as it floats upwards; Phyllis arrives back home and is confronted by Evil Cooper who tells her that she did good and followed human nature perfectly and then shoots her dead using what he says is George's gun which he leaves at the scene of the crime (there is a weird, glitchy double exposure thing that happens as Phyllis is shot and crumples to the floor).
---Las Vegas, Nevada - Mr. Todd hands Roger two wads of money and says to "tell her she has the job"; Roger asks Mr. Todd why he lets "him" make Mr. Todd do these things; Mr. Todd tells Roger to never have someone like "him" in his life.
---Buckhorn, South Dakota - We go next to a train crossing, assumed to be back in South Dakota; down the street, Evil Cooper is sitting in a diner with Ray, Darya, and a man named Jack; Jack is on his third meal and eating it like he is a starved man; Ray tells Evil Coop that Darya mentioned that he was worried about the next day or the day after, but Cooper assures him that he is not worried about anything and will need to be on his own in a couple of days; Ray says he will work on getting the information that Evil Cooper needs and Evil Cooper explains in no uncertain terms that he WANTS but doesn't NEED anything; Evil Cooper says he thinks it's kinda funny that "she" will only give the information to Ray who assures Evil Cooper that he WILL get the information from Hasting's secretary.
---Twin Peaks, Washington - Hawk is walking in the Ghostwoods with his flashlight when he gets another call from The Log Lady; he tells her that he has learned - from reading the old case files - that something is supposed to happen that night; she tells him "the stars turn and the time presents itself"; they hang up and Hawk ends up in Glastonbury Grove staring at the sycamore trees that appear to suddenly be getting a red velvety curtain-like appearance.
---The Waiting Room (The Red Room) - Agent Cooper sits with Phillip Gerard (same as Mike, the One Armed Man, but this is how he is credited) who asks him "Is it future or is it past?" and then tells him "someone is here"; an aged Laura Palmer slowly enters the room, sits down and tells him "you can go out now"; Cooper asks her if she is Laura Palmer and she replies "I feel like I know her, but sometimes my arms bend back" and then he asks her again and she says "I am Laura Palmer" and claims she is dead yet she lives; Laura Palmer then takes off her face (like it is a mask) revealing a bright white light underneath where her features should be; Cooper then asks "when can I go?" and then - just like 25 years ago - she moves over to Cooper, kisses him, and whispers something in his ear; Laura is then ripped from the room through the ceiling, screaming as she goes up the shaking curtains and leaving Cooper in shock on the couch; the red curtains get wavy and part and Cooper sees a white horse in the distance; and then suddenly he is back sitting with Phillip Gerard who once again asks him "Is it future or is it past?"; Philip then gestures for Cooper to follow him into another room where they are met by The Evolution Of The Arm (which now resembles a sycamore tree with a brainy looking bulbous head stuck on top like a Christmas star) which asks Cooper if he remembers his doppelgänger and Cooper remembers it laughing with Bob and chasing his good self through the corridors of The Waiting Room/Lodges 25 years ago; The Evolution Of The Arm then explains to Cooper that "he must come back in before you can go out".
---Buckhorn, South Dakota - Jack is putting Evil Cooper's car in storage and giving him a new one to use; Evil Cooper takes the keys from him and then says "Jack - come here" and begins to massage Jack's mouth and gums in a very strange and methodical way; a storm is brewing as Evil Cooper arrives back at Room 6 of the hotel where he has stashed Darya who quickly hangs up the phone; Evil Cooper asks her who she was talking to and she says Jack who said "it's all good to go"; Evil Cooper tells her that Ray was supposed to meet him but never showed and then asks her for her gun; he then lays in the bed holding her while he tells her that he killed Jack after the car switch and then plays her the actual tape of the call that she was on - which was with Ray and not Jack - in which we learn that Ray is in prison for attempting to bring guns over state lines and that Phillip Jeffries has ordered them to kill Evil Cooper the following night if he is still there which means that she will have to do it; Evil Cooper smacks Darya and asks her who hired them to kill him, but she claims to not know and tells him they were being paid half a million; Evil Cooper explains that he is supposed to get pulled back to a place called The Black Lodge the next day, but that he isn't going back, that he has a "plan for that one"; he asks Darya if Ray ever talked to Hastings' secretary and mentioned any coordinates, but she says no; next he shows her an odd looking playing card with a black circle with black ears resembling a jester's hat and asks if anybody ever showed her that before and then says that THAT is what he wants; Darya asks him if he is going to kill her now and he says "yes" and does so; Evil Cooper then sets up a special communication device in the room and contacts Phillip Jeffries who is still "nowhere", but Jeffries comments that Evil Cooper met with Major Garland Briggs which causes Evil Cooper to wonder why he is being asked that and exactly who he is really talking to; Jeffries says he called to say goodbye and tells Evil Cooper "you are going back in tomorrow and I will be with Bob again" and then hangs up; Evil Cooper contemplates matters for a moment and then uses his computer to hack into the FBI data bank and get schematics for Yankton Federal Prison in southeastern South Dakota; Evil Cooper leaves Room 6 and goes to Room 7 where he tells his associate - Chantal Hutchens - to clean up in Room 6 and then go get her husband Hutch so that they can be in a certain area in a few days; he then calls her to him and feels how wet she is.
---The Waiting Room (The Red Room) - The Evolution Of The Arm says "253 - time and time again", then says "Bob, Bob, Bob" and then finally says "Go now!"; Agent Cooper leaves The Waiting Room and attempts to peel back the curtain to another room, but is stopped; after walking around for awhile he finds his way into another room where Leland Palmer is sitting and says "find Laura"; the floor begins to get weird and wavy; Phillip Gerard - standing with The Evolution Of The Arm says, "something's wrong" and The Evolution Of The Arm replies, "my doppelgänger"; Cooper finally finds a hallway where the statue is in a different place and VOILA! - peeling back the curtain reveals the real world and a highway below with Evil Cooper heading down it in his car; but before Cooper can do anything about it (and maybe jump) the statue changes form and he is attacked by The Evolution Of The Arm and prevented from doing so; the floor begins to shift apart and Agent Cooper falls through the floor (which appears to have a black inky liquid underneath it) as The Evolution Of The Arm says, "non-exist-ent!".
---???????????????????? - Agent Cooper is falling though what appears to be some kind of limbo.
---New York City, New York - Agent Cooper lands on the top of the glass box which appears to be attached to the side of the building; he then seems to seep and float through to the inside of the glass box; we are suddenly back to Sam checking the bathroom for the mysteriously missing security guard and Tracey asking if she can come inside (just like she did in Part 1 before both of them got killed by the alien entity); meanwhile, the glass box is shifting and moving with Cooper inside and then there is a flash and the glass box is empty.
---???????????????????? - Agent Cooper is once again falling though what appears to be a kind of limbo.
---Twin Peaks, Washington - At the Palmer residence, Sarah sits drinking and smoking and watching a gruesome wildlife special where a group of lionesses are killing and eating a wildebeest; as the Chromatics are performing at The Bang Bang Bar (aka The Roadhouse) Shelly and some friends are drinking and laughing as James and a friend - Freddie Sykes who has a green glove on his right hand - enter the bar; Shelly is telling her friends that her daughter is with the wrong guy, but her friend Becky says that everybody loves Steven even though Shelly is sure that there is "something really wrong"; James sees Becky and looks at her lovingly, but a friend at the table doesn't like it and says, "something's wrong with that guy" to which Shelly explains that he was in a motorcycle accident and is quiet now and then adds "James is still cool, he's always been cool"; a man at the bar - Red - flirts with Shelly via hand gestures and makes her smile (she obviously knows him) and then finally we see that the man tending bar looks exactly - and I mean EXACTLY - like Jacques Renault (even though he is listed as Jean-Michel Renault).
---CLOSING CREDITS - the credits roll over the rest of the performance by the Chromatics with James continuing to look at Becky; this episode is dedicated "In Memory Of Frank Silva" - Bob.

Of course, there are even MORE questions after the second hour. Some are less important than others and some are probably answering themselves. But here's a list of what I came up with from Part 2 (if you can think of any more, please list them)...

QUESTIONS

1.) Who is the other person that Phyllis Hastings is having an affair with? Is it another entity from The Black Lodge like Phyllis appears to be? And what about Bill?
2.) Who and/or what is the blackened figure who disappeared from the cell near Bill Hastings'? Creepy as hell. Reminded me a little of the blackened guy in Mulholland Drive, but an even weirder thought is that it looks a little bit like one of the woodsmen from the scene above the convenience store in Fire Walk With Me (and I've always thought that one of those woodsmen was probably Margaret's - The Log Lady's - husband).
3.) Who does Mr. Todd in Las Vegas work for? Is it the same billionaire who owns the glass box in New York City?
4.) Who is the "she" that Mr. Todd is hiring and what is he hiring her for? Could it be a replacement for Sam who got killed by the alien looking entity in the glass box in New York City? Could it be Audrey Horne? Or somebody else working undercover to figure out what is going on there?
5.) Why is Jack so darn hungry that he's scarfing down three meals at the diner? It's probably no big deal, but why is poor Jack so famished?
6.) What is the information - later learned to be coordinates - that Ray is supposed to get from Hastings' secretary? Are they the coordinates for the place on the highway where Cooper in The Black Lodge saw himself driving down the road? Or something else?
7.) Why is Hawk at Glastonbury Grove thinking that something is supposed to happen? How does he know to be there already? Does he remember the planetary alignments from 25 years previously? As far as I can tell, he hasn't sifted through the boxes of files at all yet.
8.) Why does Phillip Gerard keep saying to Agent Cooper, "is it future or is it past"? Why is everything so messed up with things happening before they should have happened?
9.) Why is it stark white when Laura Palmer peels back her face like a mask? I mean, she is REALLY white. No offense. It reminds me of the hooded figure in Episode 26 that has a moon for a face - and behind the figure is nothing but stark white.
10.) What does Laura Palmer whisper in Agent Cooper's ear? Whatever it is, he appears startled at one point and then looks up at her in wonder. Could she be telling him that she is still alive and has been in The Waiting Room/Lodges the whole time?
11.) What happens to her when she is ripped away and drawn upwards after whispering to Agent Cooper and why? If she WAS still alive, is she still now?
12.) What is the deal with the white horse that Cooper sees briefly after Laura is taken away? Behold a pale horse? Heroin? Remember the white/pale horse from Sarah Palmer's drug induced visions?
13.) How and/or why did The Arm evolve? I know, I know, it's because Michael J. Anderson didn't sign on for the new show. But seriously, how did this occur? And just what is the significance of the sycamore tree?
14.) What is with the weird mouth massage that Evil Cooper gives to Jack? I mean, we learn later on in the episode that he killed Jack, but what a weird way to do it. Any ideas on what kind of dental martial arts this might be?
15.) How did Ray and Darya get hooked up with (Evil or not) Phillip Jeffries? I've guessed since Fire Walk With Me that Phillip Jeffries was KEY to this whole thing. So I am fascinated with this story line. How did these guys meet? I'm guessing through Evil Cooper. But how did they get convinced to turn on Evil Cooper? Just the money?
16.) What is the odd looking playing card that Evil Cooper shows Darya with the round black circle with black ears resembling a jester's hat? I'm not liking where this is going. I mean for our man Coop. As a viewer, I'm LOVING it. Another sign pointing to Windom Earle - or, I suppose, Evil Windom Earle - being back. First the bonsai plant and now a playing card message.
17.) Who was on the secret phone call with Evil Cooper - was it Phillip Jeffries, an Evil Phillip Jeffries, or somebody else entirely? I don't think it was Jeffries. I'm going with Windom Earle. But I'm pretty sure that it wasn't Jeffries.
18.) Why did the person on the secret phone call with Evil Cooper ask about a meeting with Major Garland Briggs? How did they know about the meeting and what was Evil Cooper doing meeting with Major Briggs in the first place?
19.) Why was Evil Cooper downloading schematics for Yankton Federal Prison? Was it so he could get to Ray to kill him? Or is it because he knows that he is about to become a prisoner there?
20.) Who exactly is Chantal Hutchen and her husband Hutch and what are their connections to Evil Cooper? Who are they, how did they get hooked up with Evil Cooper, and are they also evil entities from The Black Lodge?
21.) Why did The Evolution Of The Arm say "253, time and time again, Bob, Bob, Bob"? Some of this will be understood after Parts 3 & 4 (so no spoilers until after Sunday night), but I'm asking in a much broader sense.
22.) Why did Leland Palmer tell Agent Cooper to "find Laura"? I thought she was dead. And this is the original Leland with normally graying hair. Not the white haired Leland that had been driven to madness by Bob. It's looking more and more like the REAL Laura Palmer may not have ever died, but may have been trapped inside The Waiting Room/Lodges this entire 25 years.
23.) What did The Evolution Of The Arm mean when it said to Agent Cooper "non-exist-ent!"? Did it mean that by throwing Agent Cooper under the floor - and with all of the current worlds/realities already having Cooper's in them - that he would indeed become non-existent?
24.) Where exactly IS Agent Cooper when he's floating in the ether looking an AWFUL lot like David Byrne in that old Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime" video? Is he actually floating around in nothingness? Between two worlds, so to speak? Is this where Agent Jeffries was when he went missing for almost two years?
25.) How in the hell did Agent Cooper end up on/in the glass box in New York City? And so quickly? Notice he was only in the limbo void for a second or two before getting slammed down onto the glass box. It drew him right in.
26.) And what exactly does it mean that Sam and Tracey are back with the missing guard again (and still alive)? Is it future or is it past, indeed.
27.) What's the deal with James' friend Freddie's green hand? Is it for medical reasons? Is it a fashion statement? Does it matter?
28.) Who is Shelly's daughter and who is the father? I wonder if she's Leo's daughter?
29.) Who or what is this Steven guy that Shelly's daughter is mixed up with? Is he from The Black Lodge, too? Or is he just another Leo Johnson wife beater in the making?
30.) Why does Shelly say that James has always been cool when James has NEVER been cool? This is more proof that this is NOT the same town/reality of Twin Peaks that we were in 25 years ago.
31.) Who is this Red guy at the bar making gestures to Shelly? He must be important - he's being played by a big star, Balthazar Getty, who was good in Lost Highway. So we'll probably be getting to know him more.
32.) Why is there yet another Renault tending bar at The Roadhouse and - most importantly - why does he look EXACTLY like Jacques Renault? I know, I'm obsessed with this. But it does add to my alternate reality theory. Doesn't it?

Re: TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN - Discuss the past, present and future of all things Twin Peaks
Nice recap and thought-questions.

Today I'm just watching the clock anticipating the airing tonight.

Finally watched FWWM yesterday. Now I know who Philips Jefferies is so that's good.

When I saw the actor who originally played Jacques Renault I just assumed DL brought the actor back as someone else because he was bringing a lot of past actors back. And being that his original part wasn't all that big and the actor now wears a beard(signalling a different character) it didn't bug me them doing so. So he is playing his cousin or something, no big whoop.

Also, after watching FWWM and knowing of the Chris Isaak detective disappearing I imagine maybe he too might be reappearing here in some form. Who knows.

Oh, and for Sam and Tracey again in the lobby while Cooper floats, I just took that as...hey, look what happened when they originally went out to the lobby. I didn't take it as a different reality. Just a reveal of what they missed when they left.

But I ain't no expert.

Darn!

I forgot that 3 and 4 were not yet watched by everyone, so I immediately withdrew my comments.

Will post it later.

Sorry.

As soon as I saw that card, it reminded me of the Carving on The Ring.

If I'm remembering correctly, in the first series that carving was shown upside down at first, which threw them off.

That's why I believe it's exactly what Evil Coop wants to locate. It's one of the keys to ensure his plan to stay works.

It just seems strange that he doesn't mention that it's on a ring. Is there only SO MUCH that this doppelganger knows that our Coop knows? Maybe that's another clue for us to ponder as we move forward.

It's interesting that he says "I WANT', for it actually seems that he needs. This may be showing that he's not as fearless and powerful as other's believe.

Also, Windom Earle used playing cards when setting up his plan. Using this 'meme' again seems fitting.

I'm not getting vibes of Windom's return yet.

As for the Bonsai plant...I'm leaving this until after tonight's airing.

Re: TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN - Discuss the past, present and future of all things Twin Peaks
YAY!! A Twin Peaks thread!!

I was a huge fan when it aired. I was going to do a binge watch to refresh my memory - but opted for an experiment. I did NOT do a rewatch. My logic is that if it was real life - there is no rewatch. It's been 25 years for all of us. How much will I remember?

I watched all 4 of the new shows yesterday. While there is a TON of stuff I've forgotten...I am actually not completely lost. Confused, yes. But the more I watched, the more pieces came to me. Just like they do in real life.

I only have 2 comments -

1) They really should have opened or closed the drapes in the apartment and made a comment about how quiet they were.

2) I can't ask about yet because it's from Epi 3. But it'll wait.

Overall, I'm enjoying this immensely and when it's over, I fully intend to do the full binge watch because I know I'm missing a lot!!

14.) "What is with the weird mouth massage that Evil Cooper gives to Jack?"

I think we will never know, or maybe in 25 years!

That's why i love Twin Peaks so much.

That scene was hilarious, it was so awkward and it lasted forever.

Remember the scene of Leland getting a nervous breakdown while waiting for the red traffic lights to turn green?

Only Lynch can film such a thing.

That's the "log lady" and she looks like that because she was dying from cancer. I was surprised to see her in the show.

This season is very electrifying!

okay. This will all be presented in bits and pieces.

Dr. Jacoby: As I previously mentioned, the fact that he's in the woods makes me wonder if he's still looking for Laura. He knew enough about the supernatural aspect of the woods as it relates to the strange goings on at Twin Peaks; maybe he's never been quite convinced that the Laura who died at the end was the real Laura. As a psychiatrist, he'd have this urge to figure out, understand, exactly what really happened here. More than anyone else, he was privy to most of her secrets, and the changes they exacted on Laura through time.

As for the Golden shovels? Beats me. Jacoby's mind sees the world as other's do not. His choice of eyeglass lenses is used to alter fields of vision. They also seem to symbolize his desire to percieve extra layers of our reality. Does he paint the shovels 'golden' to help him 'dig' deeper into this mystery? Multiple shovels to 'surround' him the way a pentagram serves others? That's all I can think of, seeing this once flamboyant character now down to earth, deep in the woods.

---
The Giant, now "??????".....time will tell. Yet, in saying "it cannot be said aloud now" ...

--This brings me to Laura whispering to Coop, after he's been told he can leave now. Does her face emitting light symbolize the illumination of the true nature of her reality...that she is similarly alive in 'suspended animation' as he is, even though dead in our reality? Did whatever she SAID ALOUD in a whisper to him break the 'rule' that ????? was referring to, causing her to be 'charged', shifted, into another reality? Anyone who's seen the next episodes will recall another instance where someone who attempts to tell Coop things does so by choice, then fully submits to the consequences.

---The Playing Card...the symbol on it looked exactly like the Carving on The Ring. We know that Evil Coop was working a plan to prevent the 'void' from forcing him to go back in. Evil Coop emphatically said he WANTED the information the secretary knew. We don't yet know who Hastings' secretary is, but I suspect she knows the where the person with the ring, Dougie, was located. How would Hastings, a school principle, know this? And why wouldn't she talk to Evil Coop? It looks as if Buckthorn has a lot of nasty secrets, with hints that Evil Coop has rubbed some of them the wrong way. I must wonder ifor this town also has a history similar to Twin Peaks.

There's obviously a network of seemingly ordinary people scattered about who have been unwittingly 'sucked' or 'suckered' into working for underlying extraordinary forces here. There's even a dog leg found later on, along with drugs.

Consider the fact that Ruth gets her face partially consumed, as does the couple killed by the entity from the glass portal.

Perhaps Coop WAS to return via the glass box, until the scheme by those otherworldy forces working to ensure Evil Coop stays put manages to pull him back into 'the void', with the portal 'opened' long enough to send in a 'fixer' to send a clear message that it will destroy anyone who attempts to 'know' and (interfere with?) these extraordinary forces, like the billionaire, or, like Ruth, who along with the couple on the couch, all most likely very dark messages to say 'stay away' from this. The question is: who will 'get' the message? Certainly not the police, or, FBI. The message is for those who are delving into places they are not wanted. The military, and, the billionaire?

The Question of Dougie's existence is an uncanny one. He looks like Coop, and is clearly not 25 years-old. It will be interesting to find out HOW HE CAME TO BE. It seems as if he has been left to his own devices, somehow having been given that ring somewhere along the line...with Evil Coop possibly looking for his whereabouts to ensure Dougie takes his place.

The real Dougie has become a marked man, a matter that could now endanger our beloved Coop...whose love for a GOOD cup of coffee may have just shaken him 'somewhat out of' the catatonic state he arrived in. Whether or not he recovers his memories sooner, rather than in bits and pieces, is the question. I'm thinking it will take time, because Hawk still hasn't remembered that Coop wanted Hawk to find him should he go missing. I guessing this must play out to some degree.

I was first hoping that Coop's crazy sojourn at the casino would make him a news item to alert Gordon, but now it looks as if Coop is in the perfect position to find out the truth of how Dougie came to be.

Bill Hastings' involvement could be incidental, while his wife's was certainly not -as we heard Evil Coop say to Phyllis that she did good, and followed human nature perfectly. It seemed obvious that Phyliss knew Evil Coop, who's most likely the other man that Bill suspected. While we know little of Phyllis' true involvement at this point, whatever she did she brought on herself. If not for the John Doe body, framing Bill for the murders, and George for Ruth's would seem this is just a way for Evil Coop to tie up loose ends in that town.

The figure in the cell next to Bill Hastings reminded me of how Christ on the Cross is often depicted...head bent in distress, looking up to Heaven. I know that's out there, but maybe it's a watcher of sorts who'll try to help Bill. It would have been 'case closed', to a point, if Bill had simply been made to kill himself in that cell. Love triangles gone seriously bad, with George still left to answer things he can't. A lawyer caught in a Web of his own deceit would be an interesting message to insert 'just because'.

As for the mystery of the John Doe body...could it be Major Briggs' after all, or is it just too obvious to pan out? We know he went into ONE of the lodges, afterwards admitting that he now doesn't believe that the military's interest in finding the White Lodge was honorable. After he reappears, his top secret credentials are revoked. We now find out that he supposedly died in a fire at work. Well, we have a body whose identity is being blocked by the military, in a town (or region) that appears it might be worthy of scrutiny by Project Blue Book factions on either side of truth. The mystery of that body's identity may be the key to revealing who else has come to know that Twin Peaks was not the only location affected by otherworldly forces.

Whatever has gone on in the 25 years of a recurring 25 year cycle, it's clearly evident that the events in Twin Peaks have not been left unattended.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm interested what others here come up with.

There's still a number of months left, so I imagine these mysteries will keep us changing our perspectives as the series unfolds.

I really like this Dougie insertion, and can only imagine how it will play out. Kyle has done an amazing job of portraying a range of personalities. I wouldn't be surprised he wins awards for this.

There's no question that I am psyched to let this play out as it will.

Re: TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN - Discuss the past, present and future of all things Twin Peaks
One more thought...

Seeing a good deal of this story having shifted to South Dakota as we open, I became especially interested in doing a little digging when Evil Coop accesses the FBI site and we see that the map he pulls back up appears to already have a location tagged on it.

If I'm not mistaken, it looks to be in the same vicinity of Black Hills National Forest, Badlands National Park, or, Bear Butte State Park. I suspect there was a time when they were all considered to be the same sacred lands, whose folklore goes back at least to the end of last ice age.

They're rich in Native American folklore, like countless other sites both near and far, but, I found it particularly interesting that this area of South Dakota is especially sacred:

Many distinct Native American groups all believe their origin stories go back to the the Black Hills, considering the region 'the heart of everything'.

Badlands National Park is important for ceremonies and vision quests, being considered the 'womb of Mother Earth', the birthplace of Creation.

And, Bear Butte folklore says the entire area was once haunted and stalked by a dangerous monster, until a bear came to protect the people.

Just thought I'd add this, because we're currently in South Dakota, where something very strange has happened, that seems a bit otherworldly so far.

Okay. That's just another thought.

It was simply a statement made by the Major's son Bobby, the police officer who you saw crying, about how his father died soon after Coop came to see him.

I could be wrong, but the Coop who talked to his father seems to be after our Coop was trapped in the Black Lodge. Which seems to mean he may have confided secret knowledges to Evil Coop.

The other instance is just from my own imagination, wondering if the body in the bed had any relation to the Major, even the Major himself. It was just a thought.

I did the same thing the first time I watched it, after seeing him listed!cool2

When I watched again, I had to take some notes.

I've now watched all four 3 times...and realize I still have to go back once again.

But, I don't think we're alone in having to re-watch some scenes...so I don't feel too foolish not getting certain things first time around.

At least it's fun doing it.

During last week's episodes Evil Coop placed a call and the man who answered (who he thought was Phillip Jeffries) mentioned that the doppelganger (Evil Coop) had met with Major Briggs.

I do wonder what sort of information was passed on to him, and if that is the Major's body in the bed.

I don't think it was just a coincidence that Bobby mentioned his father and suddenly they've identified the corpse as being military.

Oh...and the face that drifted by in the milky way in that scene where the Asian lady jumps off...that was Major Briggs head. Another reason I thought the John Doe headless body might be his.

I've already forgotten what the head said. I'm so bad.

Oh, yes. How I forget these things is beyond me.

Interesting, because Coop already knew this was a Blue Rose case.

Maybe it's a direct clue about his demise for Coop to remember, once he gets his 'bearings' back. Or, maybe just a why to keep him a bit on track.

Anyone have a clue what item seemed to fascinate Coop while sitting at the Casino office desk?

There was a red and white 'penholder' or something. I wondered if it was just the colors.

Whatever it was, it caught his attention.

When he comes back inside the room after hearing that there is a blue rose in a vase on the table.

I keep wondering if Blue Rose is a keyword for cases related to Project Blue Book, since the Major admitted he was involved in that.

Or maybe because blue roses don't occur naturally then it would be used to describe cases that are simply unnatural (supernatural, extraterrestrial, etc.)

By the way, this is what was said during that phone call between Evil Cooper and supposedly Phillip Jeffries:

Jeffries: "I missed you in New York. I see you're still in Buckhorn."
Evil Cooper: "And you're still nowhere, is that correct?"
Jeffries: "You met with Major Garland Briggs."
EC: "How did you know that? Phillip?"
Jeffries: "Actually, I just called to say goodbye."
EC: "This is Phillip Jeffries, right?"
Jeffries: "You're going back in tomorrow and I'll be with BOB again."
EC: "Who is this?"

It does appear to be a pen holder or inkwell made of red dice, which are commonly used in casinos.

Perhaps he was remembering them from One Eyed Jack's.

Thanks for adding that.

With so much going on, it's hard to keep track of everything.

cool2

--The ? Jeffries was in NY, as the imposter implies.
--Evil Coop WAS with Major Briggs, but, that was not supposed to be common knowledge.
--The ? Jeffries & Evil Coop are still in some form of alliance years later.

'Who' was to be with Bob again?
