This is not something I read about, I spent years living there and coordinating the effort. Coordinating is putting it lightly.

Duterte was sober for the interview. Strange that I could understand him so well. Even when sober when I met with him, I had a very difficult time not only understanding his words but he also had sentence structure issues that were far worse than he showed here. I wonder if his answers were prepared in advance. Meaning he already knew the questions before the interview.

On a side note, a few assholes on here owe me an apology from other threads in the past where I said I knew duterte and he speaks English and I was called a liar because they somehow knew he did not.

As I have said in other threads, dutertes off handed comments, including riding out to the island with a Filipino flag, as he mentioned here, are surely not due to his sense of humor. He was drunk when he said them.

I have met the guy for dinner and the first few hours we got along great and he made perfect sense like in this interview. But later in the evening he would be drunk off his ass and pointing his gun at me in anger simply because I was the only white guy at the table.

One time he got pissed off at someone, left the restaurant, got on his motorcycle and was so drunk that he wiped out 50 feet from the front door. The battery from his bike ended up a 100 feet further down the road but he was so drunk he did not realize it and kept trying to start the damaged bike. I thought I was going to have to take him home because I was the only one with a car. Fortunately a taxi showed up and his bodyguards got him the it of there.
