Truth is I don't know hot to put the acute accent over the 'e' on a keyboard. Quoting: Azaziah I almost went with curriculum vitae, but I figured snowflakes would melt even faster, so I wrote resume. Touche' Don't worry bout this dude. Résumé is the preferred spelling. Resumé and resume are equally acceptable now as alternate spellings. He was even wrong in his correction. I had to look up curriculum vitae, so you got me on that one. According to what I read, that is more common in the academic community. Screw that. Academic community is what is destroying us. Anonymous Coward User ID: 8496989 United States 06/06/2017 06:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A Resume has nothing whatsoever to do with whether a person would be an excellent candidate for a manufacturing position. Quoting: Jai_Guru_Jesus_Om You are essentially requiring mastery of English to prove you can notice detail on a block of wood or whatever it is you do. If you were as smart as you want your applicants to be, you'd judge them based on their motivation and ability to be trained to DO WHAT YOU NEED THEM TO DO and nothing more. Many times an illiterate person will do a far greater job at manufacturing than someone with a PHD in English. Seriously, I think you might just be trolling with a post this stupid. Be SURE you never hire this dufus, OP. I wouldn't work for that guy: I am too good for that guy. |

It was an Application Form. I usually don't apply if a company insists they will only consider Application Forms. On the second or third page it asked for my Nationality, but the drop down box only listed countries. Now, every time they advertise I still get annoyed about it. Quoting: MySoul Just curious... what nationality is not defined by the name of a country? Ummm duh....fucking learn to use google: "In English and some other languages, the word nationality is sometimes used to refer to an ethnic group (a group of people who share a common ethnic identity, language, culture, descent, history, and so forth). This meaning of nationality is not defined by political borders or passport ownership" Hel-LO! The drop-down box had names of COUNTRIES, so obviously not the case here. Perhaps the application would have another box that asks for "race" or "ethnic group" if that's what they are looking for. Sheesh. You people. All enemies, foreign and domestic. |

The point you really should have made is that one can easily obtain assistance with preparing a resume and cover letters. Even former convicts, parolees, and probationers can get free assistance. Senior centers offer free job assistance. Public libraries offer classes in job preparedness, too. Both include help with writing a resume and cover letters. There are services that one can hire to prepare or edit a resume and individualized cover letters, as well. Costs depend on job market and supplies provided, but generally range from $20 to $100. In short, there is no reason for any worthwhile job candidate to have a shitty resume or a shitty cover letter. We are not screwing blocks of wood together. Our gear can be fairly complex, and everything simply has to be done right, or it will be caught in QC and it will just have to be done again. If a person cannot supply a resume that presents themselves in a good light, I certainly am not going to give them a precision assembly job. Parents and government are at fault. The US became too successful screwing countries for the international you wish bankstards, that let them to become complacent. The government relaxed education and parents even carried the brat backpacks so they wouldn't tire. These kids started getting bored with such an easy life, so they started using drugs for joy and to feel something... see the picture? They are sick of success... enjoy it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 64171523 United States 06/07/2017 01:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I own a small manufacturing company. Most of the assembly work is done at a bench, with hand tools. The work is not difficult, but quality and consistency is paramount. Quoting: Azaziah We are entering into our busiest time of year, and steady growth combined with losing one of our senior bench techs has caused me to run some ads (after spreading the word around to friends and associates). I have been involved in the manufacturing business for about 30 years, and have seen thousands of resumes. The last couple weeks I have been reviewing a couple dozen resumes a day. What I am seeing now, is stunning and disappointing. When did people stop learning how to compose a sentence? When did they decide that a resume composed of two sentences is somehow complete? The poor level of spelling, grammar, and frankly effort has me perplexed and perpetually face-palming. So far, I have two resumes that were not immediately round-filed. Just two. If this is the current state of our potential work force, we are in trouble. Would never work for you anyway. Micro managing at the resume level is a sure sign of a control freak in the workplace. "Small assembly work" owner who thinks hes running IBM. Why do they even need resumes for monkey work anyway? When I was a manager of a large insurance company, I only used resumes for phone numbers as they are all lies anyway. I went off of one interview and either hired or not. I was more concerned about how they did on my job and not what they supposedly did before. |
