KonspiracyKitty User ID: 29437017 United States 06/07/2017 07:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | .22 is relatively inexpensive and is very light. 400 rounds isn't very much. I'm not sure what your plan is, but upping that to at least a thousand might be a good idea. I don't know how useful the pellets are going to be. They're not very powerful and if you have a CO2 powered gun, the ammunition required (pellets+co2) to fire a given amount probably weighs as much or more as the .22 does. Those CO2 cartridges are heavy. And lastly, if there is a sudden event where civilization collapses, other people are going to be the biggest threat to your survival. A .22 isn't ideal for defense. Try to grab a .223/5.56 rifle (some may suggest a 7.62x39 instead) if you think a defensive situation in wherever you're going should be within 300 yards, or get a .308/30.06 if you think the ranges someone could be shooting at you might exceed that distance. Anonymous Coward User ID: 69173527 Canada 06/07/2017 07:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When i was a dirt poor teen, I used a cheap .177 pellet gun to get many a partridge. Always a neck or head shot and you'd often have to run at them to catch them as sometimes they'd still take off- but it can be done. Squirrels and small bunnies too. A big jack rabbit wouldn't be stopped though. I would say that a modern 'adult' level pellet gun would be very very useful for hunting small game. Though you need to balance out with the use of a 'trapline' for small game. If I was gonna head to the hills I would take a quality pellet gun and several thousand pellets. Bonus points if you buy a mold for casting your own pellets. .22 rimfire is a MUST for bush life. If i was walking in to the bush I would take at least 1000 rounds or so and that would last a long time if you were careful. If you had a way to cache ahead of time I would bring a spare .22 rifle and several thousand rounds. A cleaning kit and oil as well. |
