Actually, here's how my views have changed on the lottery.

I used to think I was so smart by never ever playing. I won a buck every drawing - by not playing. That's certainly the OP's point with his nice simulation.

But these days, I DO play infrequently - specifically only during the big jackpots. Am I throwing my money away? Of course I am! But I also realistically look at the situation, look at my finances, realize how much money I piss away on the stupidest of shit... and then utter the old "ya gotta be in it to win it" mantra and plunk down a dollar. Big freaking deal, one dollar. I lose more than that in change falling under my car seat every week, for cripes sakes.

If you buy 10 or 20 or 50 tickets? That's stupid. But geez - at least buy one! SOMEBODY wins the damn things, odds be damned...

agreed. You're better off just going to a casino.. your odds are much better and you get much more for your money, considering just how much the government takes in taxes. They take something like 60-70% of these huge lottos, which is criminal. That's like playing a slot machine with a 30-40% payout rate.

Me, I just buy stuff like stocks and coins that go up in value.
