Science Question: Would someone die instantly if their car hit a solid object at 70mph?

Lot of variables but the instant deceleration from 70mph would defeat most protective airbags, etc. and death would be instant.

I don't think I came anywhere close to being ejected from the car, but my car seat did come off its runners. The car was totaled.
