I stopped going to Myrtle Beach about 15 years ago even though it is the closest beach to where i live.
First of all, it is dirty.
The beach is dirty. You can't walk to the beach without having to step on trash or somebody's used cigarette buds. The water is nasty and bacteria ridden.
Myrtle has the nastiest beaches I have ever been on.
It is no telling what you can catch from swimming in that nasty water.
Most of the restaurants are over priced and not very good.
Lost of junk stores with overpriced junk.
The class of people who go there is mostly low-class rednecks of all races.
It has always been over-rated and too crowded. And now it is even further in the gutter.
I will never go back. There are so many nicer beaches nearby.

Litchfield Beach
Folly beach in Charleston.
Hilton Head Island
Edisto Beach.
Isle of Palms
Pretty much all of the North Carolina Beaches are better
Tybee Island, GA

Lots of other choices that are so much nicer and better close by.

There used to be so many good things about MB but they have stood idly by while things go to hell. They have some excellent shows for example, but the very demographic those shows draw which are economically and socially desirable are being pushed out.

Had a friend there through the day Saturday. Guy ran into the pool area after the shooting with his gun. I believe I would have packed and left in the spot. She has her kids there. I bet she comes home now.

We used to go there at least one week a year, when they tore the pavilion down it started going downhill fast. It seems like the heart of the city was tore out with it. we went 2 years after the pavilion was removed and then stopped going.
We now go to Daytona or take a cruise ship somewhere for a week. Surprisingly a week on a Cruise ship is way cheaper than spending a week at the beach.
