Cops seem to have a zero tolerance policy against guard dogs. I understand where they are coming from, especially if it is a pit.

For all we know, the kid sicked the dog on the cop.

if you knew this neighborhood, you would understand why the cop might have done this. this area is a hellhole, if i need to go to palmdale blvd and 10th street east, i do it in the morning, when i assume the thugs are still sleeping. actually i never go there anymore. while at the stop lights, you can watch the druggies/hookers walking around. i actually go to a vetrinarian on this side of town.... lots of pits always.

i know sheriffs in this area, the stories out of this part of town are scary.

Maybe because people don't keep their dogs contained anymore and try to "rescue" animals that will otherwise never stop being dangerous? I'm pretty sure cops with guns aren't just now existing.

I love dogs as much as anyone but you're right those are breeds that can kill, not so scared of the bull dog but the rest have the athleticism and power in the jaw to kill. Just recently a 70 something year old man walking his little dog was attacked and killed by a pit bull. I believe a child was also killed recently. That's real, not fake news... they're not coming back. They had families. It's not enough to punish people after the fact that their dog chewed someone's head off. If you own an aggressive or severe injury capable breed it's your responsibility to keep your dog leashed or fenced, not the publics. A beagle or basset hound isn't gonna kill anyone... I love dogs but damned there's some very irresponsible people who own dogs that have the capability for poor impulse control and are loaded weapons.

Just because you have the sweetest pit in the world doesn't mean your neighbor does. Reminds me of a story I read about a young couple who just had a child. They had a sweet pit who never was aggressive. The wife was cleaning the family room and had the child in a rocking bassinet thing on the deck in the backyard. The dog got the child out of the bassinet and drug it around the yard by its neck, eventually decapitating the child... never will forget that story and the horror of the parents and their first child. Yeah the officer probably overreacted but some dogs are no joke and irresponsible kids 17 shouldn't own.

Police: Teen, dog fatally shot after animal attacks deputy during call about loud music

PALMDALE, Calif. --

A 17-year-old boy and his dog were fatally shot by deputies early Thursday morning after the dog attacked a deputy in Palmdale, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The incident occurred about 3:47 a.m. in the 38500 block of 10th Street East, authorities said in a statement.

The dog was restrained by its owner, but as the investigation continued the animal got loose again and charged at the deputies, authorities said. The deputies then opened fire on the dog.


Amid the shooting, the dog's owner allegedly raced around a corner in an effort to apprehend the animal. The teen was struck at least once in the upper torso, the sheriff's department said.

He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.
