*EDIT* actually, you may be right about the mods swearing. I don't remember it and only remember people saying they didn't have a sense of humor. Which, I didn't think was fair since people do have different ideas of humor.

But I didn't understand why people were so upset about it. They didn't have to read the zombie threads if they didn't want to.

It wasn't till later that evening when someone finally told me that people didn't like the gore that I finally understood why everyone was so upset. And then I apologised for being so insensitive. So, again, I'm sorry for being so insensitive and sounding hypocritical. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes. I'm not perfect.

My problem with you as it regards to the Zombie thing is you keep jumping to the defense of the mods to blindly defend them. You have been blind to their own crass behavior whilst lecturing those who dared to speak up against the mods behavior yesterday. I see you lecturing others for the same behaviors you say nothing to your board buddies for doing. It comes off very hypocritical. I don't expect you to be perfect and I fully realize you are only human. It is you who needs to realize that nobody is perfect and stop with the lecturing of others who don't react the way you think is appropriate.

Re: Intact fire breathing dragon found in ice
Why did DaVinci draw dragons? He hated anything fake as well as magicians. He drew horses, lions, dragons...

You're missing the point. No one's suggesting that dragon's may never have existed. With every myth there is a grain of truth. With so many cultures in the ancient world having stories of these creatures yet never having crossed one another's path, is an interesting idea to ponder.

The OP is talking about a television show depicting itself as an actual documentary of the discovery of a real dragon's carcass frozen in an ice cave, and subsequent scientific tests.

I watched the program, at the same time the OP did. It was CLEARLY NOT a documentary, but a mockumentary. A dramatization exploring an idea as if it were real.

It took the premise of these ancient myths from different cultures, and ran with it projecting what if's and maybe's, exploring the ideas as a real time dramatization. The OP fell for it's style as being a factual event.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 206965

I understand what you are saying. Yes, that documentary is based on fantasy. Dragon depictions are probably based on a grain of truth and no where do we see the belief in dragons moreso than in China.

Incidentally, I bought a book for my son called "The Dragon Chronicles". This book is not classified as fiction or nonfiction. It's a good size, hardback book. IT has a publisher's note that says:

The book you hold in your hands is a faithful reproduction of a document that was brought to auction in London's antique trade during the mid-1800's. Its provenance is uncertain and carbon dating has thus far failed to provide a reliable indication of its true age, but the family who owned it at that time, the Stranacks of Sellerton Hall, maintained that it was a true record of actual events and that it had been in their possession for at least 400 years.

In an effort to establish the veracity of their claim, and presumable to drive up the asking price, senior family member Gareth Stranack presented the material to the Royal Geological Society shortly before auction but by all accounts he was firmly and scornfully rebuffed by its representatives. According to navigational maps, it could be 1500 years old.

Much of the text contained in the original manuscript was barely legible, especially on the pages where specimens and samples had stained the parchment, and since the narrative itself was written in an obscure and ancient tongue, language specialists were called in to provide the translation and photographed exactly as presented. The original(book) has now returned to a secure vault somewhere in Scotland.

This ancient manuscript was contained in a beautifully carved box with a carved dragon on top. There's a picture of the box. I'm not claiming it's real, but the depictions of the specimens of dragon like creatures is remarkable. Who knows? It's an interesting book with beautiful artwork.

I actually wasn't sticking up for just the mods, but for all of the zombies.

And you're right, I shouldn't lecture people for their behavior. It's wrong of me.

I believe anything we have a word for in the english language has existed before, otherwise why would we have a word for it that becomes so accepted? its not like some kid had a dream about a monster and then made up a name for it that everyone would use from now on... it is most likely something that lots of people knew about so they named it accordingly. Dragons, witches, wizards, angels, demons, you name it. The fact that there is a word thats been made to describe these different characters is proof enough for me.

Carpathian Mountains find now on TV documentary. It has been proven that they actually did store hydrogen and cobalt in their system and were able to actually breath fire as a defence. Actual footage shown of the winged creature from the 15th century.
Narrated by Capt Pickard from Star Trek
Sorry can't find a link but watching it now.

Re: Intact fire breathing dragon found in ice
zombies are real just in a different sense.
witches used a couple of different ways to make them.
one way is using parts of a puffer fish the other i know of is using a specific plant. the would get the victim to consume it and the victims heart rate would drop below detection point
they would then be buried and wake up. depending on the coffin and how shallow the grave was they'd dig them selfs up.

and in terms of the dragon whether the doco is fact or fiction an interesting point is how so many different cultures all around the world reffed to this amazing creature. think it over for yourselves.

Swearing and insult is the idiot's defence.

Don't get all pissy and irrational just because someone doesn't believe there are dragons.
Your swearing and biting back in that manner just gives more fuel for the flame and opens you up to more attack. You are blindly lashing out and that is something that you do not want to do here on GLP.

I happen to believe that the dragon myth came from people who found dinosaur bones and the fossilized imprints of dinosaurs that had wings.
 Quoting: SpectrumBlue

So what did Marco Polo see when he claimed he saw flying dragons on the way to China? Did you know that dragons are one of the things which are common to ALL people on the planet?

What about all the reports of dragons throughout history? We're talking military men, court advisors, surveyors, etc. In other words, reliable people.

I'm not saying OP is right, but there are records of people seeing living, (fire) breathing dragons.

Re: Intact fire breathing dragon found in ice
See if this sounds like a dragon to you.

Job 41 (New International Version)

1 "Can you pull in the leviathan [a] with a fishhook
or tie down his tongue with a rope?

2 Can you put a cord through his nose
or pierce his jaw with a hook?

3 Will he keep begging you for mercy?
Will he speak to you with gentle words?

4 Will he make an agreement with you
for you to take him as your slave for life?

5 Can you make a pet of him like a bird
or put him on a leash for your girls?

6 Will traders barter for him?
Will they divide him up among the merchants?

7 Can you fill his hide with harpoons
or his head with fishing spears?

Ancient "legends" say that you cannot pierce dragon hide with arrow, spear, nor sword

8 If you lay a hand on him,
you will remember the struggle and never do it again!

9 Any hope of subduing him is false;
the mere sight of him is overpowering.

10 No one is fierce enough to rouse him.
Who then is able to stand against me?

11 Who has a claim against me that I must pay?
Everything under heaven belongs to me.

12 "I will not fail to speak of his limbs,
his strength and his graceful form.

13 Who can strip off his outer coat?
Who would approach him with a bridle?

14 Who dares open the doors of his mouth,
ringed about with his fearsome teeth?

15 His back has rows of shields
tightly sealed together;

16 each is so close to the next
that no air can pass between.

17 They are joined fast to one another;
they cling together and cannot be parted.

18 His snorting throws out flashes of light;
his eyes are like the rays of dawn.

19 Firebrands stream from his mouth;
sparks of fire shoot out.

20 Smoke pours from his nostrils
as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.

21 His breath sets coals ablaze,
and flames dart from his mouth.

Seems like Leviathan breathes fire.

22 Strength resides in his neck;
dismay goes before him.

23 The folds of his flesh are tightly joined;
they are firm and immovable.

24 His chest is hard as rock,
hard as a lower millstone.

25 When he rises up, the mighty are terrified;
they retreat before his thrashing.

The King James version renders verse 25 this way: "25When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves." Know what this means? It means that the mighty are so afraid, they literally shit themselves from fright.

26 The sword that reaches him has no effect,
nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.

27 Iron he treats like straw
and bronze like rotten wood.

28 Arrows do not make him flee;
slingstones are like chaff to him.

29 A club seems to him but a piece of straw;
he laughs at the rattling of the lance.

30 His undersides are jagged potsherds,
leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.

31 He makes the depths churn like a boiling caldron
and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment.

32 Behind him he leaves a glistening wake;
one would think the deep had white hair.

33 Nothing on earth is his equal—
a creature without fear.

34 He looks down on all that are haughty;
he is king over all that are proud."

It would seem that Leviathan was a dragon who lived in the water. Whether you take the bible as literally the word of God as I do is irrelevant. The bible has been shown to be HISTORICALLY accurate. And it describes a HISTORIC dragon called Leviathan.
