First they make lots of noise...just like train whistle. So you cant keep them as pet in city. Second, they need moist humid climate.cold climate is strict no no. Third the food part will be easier but dont feed them beef chicken pork etc..they eat fruits n insects.four.cleaning n caring is full time job.they require huge space

A bird lives over 50 years. You hopefully are young enough to consider that?
But Lord, he stinketh!

I have a green macaw. He is better at alerting me to people around my house than the dogs are. They are messy , throw food all over hell, and yes make tons of noise.

If you use non stick Teflon pans you will have to get rid of them. The toxins released when heating the pans kills birds.

Go with a cockatoo instead. Half the price and better manners.

We had a sulpher created cockatoo when I was younger. They don't learn to speak as many words as say an African grey, but they do make great pets. Many relevant points brought up already. Loud and messy. I know people who had African grey and maccaw's. I never noticed them being any more aggressive than the cockatoo, but they had a much higher vocabulary. Ours mainly just screamed until the neighbors complained. Had to keep his cage away from walls, he loved to poke his claws out through the cage and tear holes in the drywall.

And dust everywhere, something about their feathers gives off a ridiculous amount of dust. Have to keep them warm and ours loved to be misted with a water spray bottle.

You got me laughing with the terrible two's . I have one and I love to hate it. couldn't live without it though they are funnier than sht. They say the funniest things at the wrong time.

Had a girlfriend that used to be a screamer. Now when a woman comes he makes the same sounds. It works sometimes and sometimes they leave rather quickly. LOL.

Had a canary once. Fairly high maintenance animal. Cleaning up bird shit isn't fun. Word of obvious advice.. be careful if you have a cat. When my daughter was young she really wanted a canary even though we had a cat. One day she forgot to close the cage. Never seen a kid that said before. Well at least the cat was happy.

Re: I am thinking of getting a Scarlet Macaw (a red, yellow, and blue colored parrot)
Have an Amazon.....I am lucky as she is pretty low maintenance (except for cleaning) - actually a bit of a loner which is odd for a parrot - so she doesn't need attention 24x7...

She is 21 now......only another 50 years to go! LOLOL...

You have to be VERY willing and able for the LONG TERM commitment to them.....how many hours a day are you out of your house....

That truly is the question you have to be home a lot. I work from home so it is not an issue.
