BREAKING!! Spain Music Festival - Acrobat Falls 30 metres to his death just before Green Day's opening set - Band goes on to play. (vid)

Green Day have responded to backlash for continuing with their Mad Cool festival performance after the death of an acrobat.

Pedro Aunion Monroy, 42, plunged 100ft to the ground in front of 35,000 festival goers while descending in an illuminated box when his harness snapped, and despite receiving medical attention he sadly later died.
But just minutes later the band took to the stage and continued with their performance.
They were hit with a wave of criticism for not abandoning the gig in light of the tragic events. One festival goer wrote they were ‘ashamed’ of the band’s decision to continue with the show:
‘Ashamed of you,’ they wrote. ‘An artist died just 20 meters from you and you still play. Worst band on the planet.’

It was a horrible accident but the show should not have been cancelled because of it. Especially when you have that many people.

A sad situation but anyone there who wanted to leave were able to. Nobody forced anyone to stay. It served no purpose and would not have changed anything that happened by cancelling the show.

I doubt green day makes these decisions on their own, i guess they could have demanded not to play, but then there probably would have been riots.

Damned if they do, damned if they dont situation that they had no control of and cannot see them having any say on what performances occur like someone on a harness so to be angry at the band is not an intelligent reaction.

An intelligent reaction is if someone is upset they would not stay for the rest of the show. Why i am commenting on someone "tweet" or commentary on this is a mystery though.

i always thought the same, not real punk rockers, but i still do like Dookie, it was a good album....but they aren't real punk

So, you're saying that the band KNEW it had happened? Does their contract stipulate a stoppage in performance in the event of something like this taking place? Does anybody know?

And if they stopped, left the stage to never go back, what about the riot that would have ensued? Oh, because THATS never happened.
