Even IF true(not saying it is), last time I checked, according to the constitution it was the duty of every American to fight enemies abroad and within, should this case occur.
How would you fight a government in case it turns corrupt and treacherous if you were to let any government take away even the most basic defences like guns.
In fact, a case could be made that with technology advancing, Americans need more powerful hardware to be able to defend themselves in case of a government turning treacherous and or corrupt.

If the military remain loyal to the rogue Gov, then firearms wont really do anything against ship / sub launched tomahawk missiles, high altitude air strikes, etc. Oh yeah because that totally worked in Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan.
