It rattled the sliding glass doors and couch and floor moved. Yes it was scary. KINGDOMS, NATIONS AND KINGS HAVE BEEN BROUGHT DOWN TO THEIR KNEES WITH ONE GLANCE FROM A WOMAN. I was in hospital at the time with a buddy who had been sucker punched so he was getting his Jaw checked out, we were sat in a cubicle waiting for the nurse when we heard a rumble, I thought it was a large crash or a bomb blast at first then literally 2 session later the ceiling shook slightly (hanging ceiling/false ceiling) and my buddy was shifted across the room a few feet on a chair with wheels on. I think it turned out to be within 4 - 5 mag, it shook most of the east of England. 5.2 I think it was recorded as |

It sucks when you can't get out of the building and you're worried the thing is going to collapse around you, other than that it's just a ride. I don't know what lies they told you, but I can promise they were lies. There's a fine line between training, trauma, and torture. |

Thought our apt was going to collapse early that morning. Intense shaking. Looked out the 2nd story window and saw transformers EXPLODING (sparks/fireworks) all over in the dark in San Clemente. I saw people running out of their apts and houses screaming in their underwear. It was wild. Strong! Knocked all my motorcycles over and cracked the fairings. Car alarms went off all over town. Knocked everything off the open shelves. Lost electricity and gas. Worst EQ I've been thru since that first one in 1985.. |

Was the Loma Prieta earthquake scary? It was terrifying, I will never forget the noise, or the section of freeway that collapsed; I was scared of quakes as a small child and never liked driving in the Cypress structure in the 70's, my childhood nightmare came true and it collapsed during Loma Prieta. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73457608 Australia 07/11/2017 05:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Probably felt about a dozen I can remember. None that were really big but I'm in California so... Mostly they're over before you even realize what happened. Pretty weird though because literally the whole ground moves with you on it and then goes right back in place like rubber. Really weird experience. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 58446361 United States 07/11/2017 05:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I lived in LA, but not when any of the bigger quakes happened. The spookiest one for me was only a 4.something, but the depth/location meant we felt it pretty good where I worked at the time. Stuff fell off shelves in people's offices. Other ones in my time in LA were a lot more minor, just a little bed shaking or just a quick noise that you realize afterwards was a quake. I was told the bigger ones (like Northridge) are eerie. Things will get quiet except for dogs howling and car alarms going off. I worked with someone who had a whole aquarium smash to the floor, they lost all their fish. My old boss had a mirror fall off the wall above her bed and shattered glass went everywhere. And fires will break out. I've seen video of water sloshing out of backyard pools, too. |

Pretty scary for a few seconds because you don't know when or if it's going to end. “Do not proffer sympathy to the mentally ill; it is a bottomless pit. Twice I was in a high rise (17th floor) and the buildings were swaying back and forth, that was the weirdest feeling. Another time in an apartment, the entire building felt like a train hit it or an explosion. The last big one was the Northridge quake. All around me apartment buildings collapsed and houses had cracks. My little tiny street was the only one that survived without a scratch. |

KnotHead User ID: 75187594 United States 07/11/2017 06:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I lived in Southern California from 1965 until 2000 and experienced numerous earthquakes. Some came with a roaring sound, some were like hard jerks, some were rolling motions. I've been knocked out of bed, and had stuff fly across the room...but never experienced serious damage. The smaller ones were more startling and nervewracking that scary, but the stronger ones were definitely scary. And with every earthquake in SoCal there is the unwelcome thought that it could end up being "the big one". Now I live in blizzard, wildfire, and tornado country. “We don’t heal in isolation, but in community.” --S.
