Whaddaya think Edibles, which is better... a tiny house or a camper?

I moved from a big house in the suburbs of Massachusetts to a camper in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

There's a lot of advantages of a camper... for 30k I have a good-to-go living space that is portable and totally self-contained.

It's like a studio apartment, these newer models are pretty sweet. But the dimensions required to be able to be driven down the road to make it feel a bit cramped.

Mine has dual slide-outs in the living room, which really helps. But I'm thinking of buying a cabin kit.

I've never quite understood people that want to live off the grid yet have all the benefit of living on the grid. If people want to live off grid, just go live like the average person lived until 1930's in the backwoods. Maybe instead of a composting toliet, try the older and revolutionary technology of an outhouse and lye while wiping the old brown eye with wide and soft leaves.

Funny how 'social security' has a shortfall...but never WELFARE!

Gimme a break.

Somehow, we can always afford ALL types of welfare (even for millions of illegal immigrants!), plus billions in foreign aid to nations that hate us...BUT...social security is a "problem".

Nah, the problem is the goobermint...Unknown AC.

Blame it on my ADD, baby.

Use two 5 gallon buckets with warm water. One bucket for washing, the other to rinse yourself off. Easy enough to wash armpits, asshole, crotch and feet without the convenience of a running shower that wastes a ton of water.

Very few people can live truly off the grid today.

It's hard work, uncomfortable, and requires a lot of study, knowledge and skill.

The closest I've seen to enjoyable and doable off the grid living is by experienced full time rv'ers with good technical skills.

Like this couple. But then again they're physicists:

????????????? Off Grid doesn't mean living without, it just means you're not hooked up?

It appears you have the notion offgrid means a rejection of technology, why is that? What gave you that notion or did you just pull it out of your ass?

We've been "offgrid" for 30 years and this is the first time I've heard that we need to live without modern conveniences.

If you have an outhouse then you had to dig a pit, I think you might be interested in the links instead of just digging a pit or even a compost toilet.

With a little modification it could be as cost effective as a composter and it would be able to handle the grey water with a pure water runoff.

And of coarse no offgrid homestead would be complete without a copy of "How to Grow More Vegetables" by John Jeavons, this was written early in the permaculture movement and "The Sustainable Vegetable Garden" by John which I believe is his second book.

Are you planning on growing grains for food and feed?

Re: NEW off grid living ideas !!!
I'm converting a camper van to live in with solar in the future, propane stove, fridge, furnace & it runs pretty good for almost 40 year old vehicle.

Have lived off grid before and it's best in climates like Hawaii where it's super easy to grow food and you can be outside all day. Rains for an hour or less, then everything dries off real quick. Off grid is really really hard in other places, and very expensive unless you know how to literally do everything.

My buddies and I were JUST talking about this!! We're here in Pflugerville, and headed there this weekend.
Everything you say is 100% on the money!! No payments anymore, away in central Texas, hot as hell now, property tax insane, not really off the grid, but away from HOA, NIEGHBORI curtsy like Shirley TempleERS, OUT OF SIGHT, SIMPLICITY, before the collapse of economy, before the magnetosphere collapse and blamed on N Korea, traffic nightmares, etc... Im a farmer, and know the sun and the sun BURNS the skin now, very bad, and the leaves of most plants and vegetables leaves. The fire ants are VERY BUSY LATELY HERE, AND THE ground is cracking very bad again. Time to seriously consider and invest in one oc these NOW!!
I feel like I WAS LEAD TO THIS..very interesting Thread, and down 290...hhhmmmmm?
