Spectrum, do you remember when he said that? It was in the 1960's. He did say the "Beatles were more famous than God". I'd say you're interpretaton is way off base and sounds as if you really don't remember when he said it. There was a big uproar about it.
Also, as I do agree with the OP, the one he stated about John Lennon though made it sound as if he died right after saying that statement when in actuality it was like 20 years later.
I know, I was a teen in the '60's and remember when he died.
But I do believe if you mock God, you will pay.
