Funny, this weekend heard that so much real estate in Cali has been bought by "foreigners" as a place to stash their cash cause they don't trust anyone or anything. Then a New Yorker said many apartments are empty and being bought for the same purpose. He went so far as to say that neighborhoods have so many foreign buyers with apartments they leave empty that businesses have no traffic and are having trouble staying alive.
Makes you wonder if this is true. Another friend just came back from a business trip to africa for the foreign corporation he works for and said "everyone over there is chinese" so who knows really what the heck is going on.

This is happening in cities like San Fran and NYC because no one can afford the damn things except foreigners bc our economy and job market has been in the toilet, and because real estate in those areas is a runaway train. Foreign rich folk buy these places bc it's a safe investment that isn't going anywhere (the damn real estate market there won't be going down anytime soon) and they get the social clout of owning American real estate. Most of those Russians that own nyc literally use those apartments as shopping crash pads and send their wives/girlfriends there twice a year to buy clothes. The empty Chinese cities scare me more.
