You can trade for FREE with coinbase but you have to use their exchange called GDAX. And you also must be a "maker" in the market which means when you place your buy or sell order you will need to set it at a price between the bid and ask. They dont charge you anything because you are creating liquidity in the market. But if you buy or sell at the current bid/ask price, you are taking from the market and there will be a small fee.

OK, someone who knows his stuff, you got my attention. Must I open an account at GDAX? Once that is done can I transfer funds from coin base or do I have to go through that whole verification process all over again?

never sell directly through Coinbase. Transfer to their exchange, GDax, and sell the transfer money back to Coinbase.

All you have to do is open your coinbase acct, then with a new tab go to gdax.com, then click sign in. It should then walk you thru the setup. once setup, you will have to transfer your coins from coinbase to gdax. That's free also.

Another awesome thing about gdax is if you want to transfer your bitcoin or eth to another exchange like bittrex or poloneix so you can trade alt coins, there is no transfer fee. (never transfer your coin directly from coinbase or they will charge you an outrageous fee)

I sold half my BTC and moved it into ETH AND LTC. I USED TO TRADE DURING DOTCOM BOOM. People look for how many shares or how many coins they can buy with what the have. One coin for $2000 isnt to appealing to traders. Looks like people are trading volatility, so smaller denominations should more up faster but also more volatile. Kinda like silver moves compared to gold. Just my 2 cents on the matter. Any comments on my commen? Lol!
