How necessary is vegetables every day? Tried it just can't take it
I am a person who is naturally lean and I have a high metabolism. I workout 3x a week and I can remain ripped on extra large pizzas and cookies twice a week as long as I am moderately active.

The reason I switched to more vegetables is to try and feel more healthy in my mind. I get depressed a lot and despite being fit/inshape i was not eating much of them.

But i find eating them unbearable and not satisfying. A plate of broccoli for example even alongside chicken or something is boring as fuck. I'm literally gagging on it to get it down. Same thing with kale, spinach, cauliflower, carrots etc I just find it all completely tasteless and unsatisfying. Even putting this stuff in a juicer and making a smoothie out of it sucks.

So given that I am in great shape, regular exercise etc I don't need to lose weight, how necessary is it to include veggies that often for the purpose of feeling better MENTALLY?

It will matter later in life. When you are young you can get away with bullshit but it catches up to you. When your body doesn't get the raw materials it needs, it has to start substituting with the closest things it can find. Over time you end up with the equivalent of a bunch of duct tape and bailing wire repairs in your DNA. Trying to repair and replace cells using these messed up "plans and parts" is what makes you get old and busted.

To make them more appetizing, try baking them with some olive oil and garlic salt. Let em get a little crispy/toasted. It caramelizes out some of the sugar and makes a sweet/salty glaze that helps improve the flavor. I even ate some brussels sprouts like that once and they were actually pretty good. When you just boil them they taste nasty.

Another way is just saute with butter and salt/pepper.

There are a lot of nutrients in veggies that affect your mental state too. If you are not getting those nutrients it can cause depression.

For example inflammation can be one problem that causes depression. Here are a few that help reduce or prevent that.

Dark Leafy Greens
Mushrooms
Avocado
Walnuts
Onions
Tomatos
Beans
Berries

I eat all of those except for dark leafy greens. But i don't eat them every single day maybe once a week mix it up. It's just stuff like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, Asparagus, Brussels sprouts that i can't take. The vegetables that are considered super foods i gag on.

The body's main nutritional needs can be grouped into protein, fiber, phytonutrients, probiotics, vitamins, minerals and fatty-acids. Fulfill those, and you're good to go. If you can accomplish high levels of those while minimizing calorie intake in consideration of your physical activity, you will achieve longevity and fantastic health.

Skipping any of those will be hard on your body over time. You might look ripped and healthy right now, but you'll wear yourself out if you just eat fat and protein all your life.

Do it for your mind and body, not for the taste. Food can be enjoyable, but the real purpose of eating is one thing - nutrition. Eventually you'll acquire certain tastes, and it won't be so bad ;)

Your liver will slow down production. You don't want that, a lot of symptoms will arise. Plus you have liver working over to clean blood while you work out. Get some liver detox. You will feel better.

So one day i might have an apple and some nuts and seeds and then go 3 days without it. One week veggies then no veggies for 2 weeks. I find it hard to eat the good stuff absolutely consistently.

the scotts ate mostly fish and oatmeal
the swiss ate rye and goat milk products and meat and some vegetable things in summer

if you read "nutrition and physical degeneration" by price, you will see that there is a basic need for nutrients and for energy. many successful diets have found trad ways of getting these two things, but remember: food is soil transformed. your food is only as good as how it is raised.

Me personally, at 40, I cant eat lots of pizza, even though its passion, or it goes right to my gut. Granted, I dont work out, but Im fairly active during the day. Im also a vegetarian, but If I eat a pound of nuts daily, I will gain weight.

great dairy free smoothie recipe...


in blender add:

10-12 ice cubes
1 cup almond milk
2 large bananas sliced
1 apple cored and sliced
1 handful of baby spinach
1 handful kale
1 tablespoon of honey


Blend 1-2 minutes until smooth

Optional:
1 scoop life essence multivitamin powder

It all changes as you age.

All I eat is veggies and lean protein.

My body craves veggies and they provide all your daily nutrients.

Btw, I'm still the same weight and size as I was in high school and only work out a few times a week in gym. But I'm very active, hike, bike, walk everywhere. Diet is the key to an active life.

Pizza will eventually make you lazy and fat. Same with ast food.

75% veggie and fruit, 25% lean protein and you'll never be hungry.

Use breads and grains sparingly.

i think it makes sense to look to your ancestors. mine are from northern europe. how many veggies do you think they ate?

my grandmother ate the blandest diet ever. meat and potatoes girl. she lived to be 99. on the other side, my grandfather hated salads. he lived to be 96.

i eat about one portion of veggies per day. and maybe one of fruit. i am 54 years old and basically healthy and relatively strong and weigh 105. i eat a bland diet that is mostly dairy, eggs, carbs, meats and fish. i eat lots of butter and sea salt. i don't do a lot of sugar and i read labels. i only eat real food not fake food.

i also do not do a lot of fermented or spicy things. fresh and bland.

Op if you want to add in more veggies then steam them and put cheese sauce over them. Everything tastes good with cheese. LOL

Or eat a romaine salad a few times a week. Find a salad dressing you like. Add in cheese, croutons, nuts, seeds chicken or whatever and you have a good meal.
