Anonymous Coward User ID: 53273258 United States 07/21/2017 12:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oroville Dam is 50+ years old, has had little to no updating, reinforcement, or upgrades in all that time. It is the tallest dam in the USA. It is private owned electricity producing and what is the goal of any private company? Well, it sure isn't dumping all the profits back into it for the safety of those who live below it. |
UH... User ID: 4554711 United States 07/21/2017 12:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I lived below the dam for almost a decade. We knew it had issues years ago. The overflow spillway had pebbles coming out of the concrete even back then. I was actually very surprised it held. I lived next to the Thompson Flat Cemetery for a few years, it is down the canyon, just beyond the tracks. So close that if it had a catastrophic failure all I would have heard was a loud crashing sound and seen a wall of water 50 foot deep and that would have been it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48618398 THIS IS WHY THEYHAVE BEEN DROPPIN GIT LIKE CRAZY..LAST I SAW WAS AT 805.... OROVILLE LIVES!!!!...OR DIES.. |

This is HUGE news from the Sacramento bee This was talked about quite a lot several months ago, but it dropped off the radar. So it looks like we where being soft soaped all along, but that's no surprise really. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 43382731 United States 07/21/2017 04:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i was overhesring a retired engineer talk about oroville the other day, he wo workedon the damn. He said there was an earthquake during the construction of the damn dam! (i work in an assisted live facility) He said shit mived big time, maybe not a legit earthquake, but major settling from the weight of all the material they were placing. He basically said they papered over it and kept on....He saidthesesugn life of the dam was only 50 years.... |

LAZY? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72052582 Link to the source article: [link to www.sacbee.com] But in his 124-page report, Robert Bea of the Center for Catastrophic Risk Management at UC Berkeley says he led a team of 14 volunteers, including a group of retired state dam safety and water officials, who reviewed historical photos, videos, and state and federal inspection reports and concluded that something more serious may be going on. Hey good for them activists! |

And that happens as the filters are larger sized materials and over time smaller particles seep inside and clog the filter. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30194358 And that happens as the filters are larger sized materials and over time smaller particles seep inside and clog the filter. Sorry meant to say the filters are clogged. The filters are just layers inside the embankment of larger diameter material so water flows more easily inside those layers. They should check all that with some boreholes along stationing in that embankment, the state should be out there today doing that. |

I'll see if I can find the drawings... |

I bet the whole embankment is saturated you don't want that with an EQ |
