We have lost our catamaran home on a reef
She is a total loss.

The family is safe and had to be helicoptered off of her in the night, but we all escaped with only minor injuries.

Horrible loss OP, but thank god you all made it out safe. Very sorry to hear about your loss.

I lost my catalina 3 years back after it was hit by an inexperienced boater in a marina, not close to the scary moment you all experienced though.

Again thank god for your safe rescue.

Waves were not in order but coming from all directions and Tanda Malaika felt different – bumpy and uneasy as she moved through the water. We had left Mo’orea around 6am and it was about 8pm and completely dark when I was in the galley cooking a late dinner with two hot pots on the stove and more food baking in the oven. ...."

That certainly sucks but boats can be replaced.

Thank God y'all are well!

One hell of an adventure the family will certainly never forget though! Many tales for generations!

But, I do trust she was insured??

Re: We have lost our catamaran home on a reef
Wow! Awesome story. I wish I had found you before on GLP! I also own a catamaran (62' Lagoon) but we keep her docked in south France (Le Lavandou) for the months we travel.

What size is she?

Heads? Cabins?

Living on a cat is not something I think I could muster! Our 3 daughters are too young to be hands so I wouldn't dare go out that far.

Anyways, keep posting!

I am so sorry. Thank goodness the whole family made it out safe and sound but what a traumatic experience.

The rescuers and the rescue station you were brought to sound like a wonderful place with good kind people.

Prayers to you and your family.

Dry land rarely hits a reef.

Some people are not happy unless they can point out the faults of others. Likely this AC is jealous of capt dan's amazing, adventurous spirit and can only exhibit envy and jealousy.

OP is awesome and an awesome dad, I am raising my kids around sailing on the Columbia river and its one of the best purchases we have ever made, had a few sad moments, but so many good memories just camping on Govt island or sailing to Astoria.

(P.S. Love the new handle!!)

Wouldn't a good insurance policy allow you to replace the boat?
