who cleaned the dust off the mirrors? you know, when the lander blasted off it must have kicked up some dust to cover the mirrors

Funny i have a tool at work i can point at whatever and it will tell me how far away it is regardless of the reflective surface . So your theory is seriously flawed

Try it with the moon with the most powerful tool you can obtain and let me know what distance you get.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71903407

It was done before any moon landing, that's how they knew the distance before they left and how they did the necessary calculations (fuel, launch time etc...).
See the paradox there ;)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74746943

No, we've known the rough distance to the moon since Aristarchus correctly calculated it in 270 BC.

The Birth of Laser Ranging

The concept of receiving laser light echoes from the lunar surface proceeded more or less in parallel with the artificial satellite experiments. However, the spreading of a beam of outgoing laser light as it interacted with, and was reflected by, the moon's rough topography made ultra-precise distance determinations, as was done with artificial satellites, an impossibility.

A number of such lunar experiments had been performed in the early 1960's, both at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in the former Soviet Union, but with little success. A later, more refined concept recommended the deployment of a corner retroreflector package on the lunar surface as a part of one of the unmanned, soft-landing Surveyor missions. This was never brought to fruition, however. It was only in the late 1960's, with the birth of the NASA Apollo project for landing an astronaut safely on the moon, that the concept of laser ranging to a lunar surface corner retroreflector package became a reality.

The ongoing Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment measures the distance between Earth and the Moon using laser ranging. Lasers on Earth are aimed at retroreflectors planted on the Moon during the Apollo program (11, 14, and 15) and the two Lunokhod missions. The time for the reflected light to return is measured.

Aristarchus 270 BC, used the most powerful tool of all, his brain and derived the Moon's distance by using the duration of a lunar eclipse.

There are two ways to measure the distance from the Earth to the Moon on your own: using a Lunar eclipse and using parallax. ... From these measurements, it was simple geometry that allowed Aristarchus (c. 270 BC) to determined that the Moon was round 60 Earth radii away (about 386,243 km or 240,000 miles).Apr 26, 2016

We went to the moon, six times. What's far more
interesting is why it stopped. Also no missions
to the dark side. Why not?

Comms couldn't have been the issue, because a relay satellite could have been pre-launched and given
non-stop coverage back to earth.

Recon also couldn't have been the issue. A lunar
orbiter could have gotten all the detailed photos
needed beforehand.

So why no dark side missions?

There were sharply diminishing returns to the information we were getting since the Moon is dead rock and dust. The public was getting bored of all the missions and there were growing complaints about the expense. Liberals of the 1970s wanted the money spent on the alleviation of poverty and other social justice issues.

I doubt that there's a hostile alien base on the dark side of the Moon but I won't completely dismiss the idea.

Well for the ranging experiment, only 1% of the actual photons fired at the moon are returned, this in itself is pretty flimsy.

Furthermore one could argue that they shot the moon with photon's in different places until they found a place that returned the 1% back, then they told everyone to point the lasers at that place ( or places ) and that's where the reflectors are.

But I guess an internet article is enough to convince most people not to think for a minute, and use their brains.

Re: If we never went to the Moon then how do you hoaxtards explain this?
OP obviously does not differentiate between landing a MAN and landing a PROBE on the moon. Most moonhoaxers have a problem with the former, which is not unreasonable. There are issues there which put the manned landings into question.
I believe we did put a man on the moon, but most videos and photos were done in some hangar, Kubrick style. Most likely the video/photo material done on the moon was too crappy for anyone to believe they actually got there. So they arranged some photo ops to make the thing believable.
