CHEEKY DEVILS

Firm win £10m over satanism rumours

PROCTER & Gamble have won almost £10million in a lawsuit filed against four former distributors accused of spreading rumours linking the company to Satanism.

A US district court found in favour of the Cincinnati company, who have a turnover of £35billion.

The lawsuit was one of several the company brought over false rumours alleging a link between the company's logo and satanism.

Rumours had begun circulating as early as 1981 that the company's logo - a bearded, crescent man-in-the-moon looking over a field of 13 stars - was a symbol of the Devil.

The company alleged that Amway Corporation distributors revived those rumours in 1995, using a voicemail system to tell thousands of customers that part of P&G's profits went to satanic cults.

Amway are involved in direct selling through independent business owners in more than 80 countries and territories around the world.

Jim Johnson, P&G's chief legal officer, said: "This is about protecting our reputation. We will take appropriate legal measures when competitors unfairly undermine the reputation of our brands or our company."

The former Amway distributors thought they would be exonerated and were shocked by the verdict, said Randy Haugen, one of the defendants.

The Utah businessman added: "It's hard to imagine they'd pursue it this long, especially after all the retractions we put out. We are stunned. All of us."

Haugen maintained that P&G, who are the world's largest consumer goods company with a host of famous products such as Pampers nappies and Gillette goods, were never able to show how they were harmed by the rumours.

Amway, who were dismissed early from the case after quickly quashing the rumours, were sympathetic towards the distributors.

A spokesman said: "Despite the public apology, P&G have spent 12 years destroying their lives.

"P&G are a $68billion company. What they got out of this case was what they could earn in about two-and-a-half hours. We think that's shameful."

P & G Logo controversy

The company received unwanted media publicity in the 1980s when an urban legend spread that their previous corporate logo was a satanic symbol. The accusation is based on a particular passage in the Bible, specifically Revelation 12:1, which states: "And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars." Since P&G's logo consists of a man's face on a moon surrounded by thirteen stars, some have claimed that the logo is a mockery of the heavenly symbol alluded to in the aforementioned verse, and hence the logo is Satanic. Where the beard meets the surrounding circle, a mirror image of 666 can be seen when viewed from inside the logo, and this has been interpreted as the reflected number of the beast, again linked to Satanism. Also, there are two horns like a lamb that are said to represent the false prophet. These interpretations have been denied by company officials, and no evidence linking the company to the Church of Satan or any other occult organization has ever been presented.[3]

The company has sued and attempted to sue a number of companies and individuals who have spread rumors of this type,[4] in some instances because they sell competitive products and have spread such rumors for the purpose of tarnishing P&G's image to increase sales of their own brands.[5] An example of one such rumor was that the president of P&G had appeared on a Saturday edition of the Phil Donahue show, and declared that he was a Satanist and that the company's logo was Satanic. This rumor circulated despite the facts that the company's president has never made such a statement in public; had never appeared on Phil Donahue's show; and that Donahue's show does not run on Saturdays.[6] However, the continuous media coverage prompted P&G to adopt an entirely new logo consisting of just the letters P&G. In television commercials in Hong Kong and China, the former P&G logo still appears at the end of each commercial. It also still appears on the Company's packaging that it sends to retailers.

A Dilbert strip pokes fun at this controversy. In the strip, Dilbert asks "Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light" what he does for money. Phil responds, "Corporate sponsorship. Procter and Gamble pays me to stay away from them."

I never joined a satanic cult, but I once did attend a solitaire convention, which actually sucked, as I was the only one who showed up.

Remember this, the elite rule this planet and if the sheeple actually realised that the accusations were true then just how much money do you think P & G would have stood to loss all these years, it's not rocket science..

Not too swift are you? I make no claim as a ROCKET scientist. Not my specialty. You, however need make no claims. Your postings speak to your intelligence, or lack thereof.
