No shell burns, and I always wear hearing protection, but my clothes still smell like burned powder! I did shoot a Thompson, which I've always wanted to do. Now, I MUST have one. What impressed me the most was the GE Mini-gun. Man, TV and movies just don't do that thing justice! It was also the first time I've been around a .50 BMG in action. Holy Shite, Batman! What a muzzle blast! It was like getting punched in the face every time that thing went off! |

What a muzzle blast! It was like getting punched in the face every time that thing went off! What's amazing is that the mini-gun sounds JUST LIKE they make it sound in the movies. You could hear that thing wind up from a mile away (coincidently about how far I had to park). One guy had a mini for sale for the bargain basement price of $285,000. I heard that they were charging $700 for a 19 second shoot for the mini-gun. You know those explosives that blew up when they shot them? I found out what they (partially) were. It's called tannerite. It's LEGAL to use it for target practice! [link to www.tannerite.com] I'm going to write the guy and ask him if .22 will set it off. If so, I've just got a great motivator for my son in hitting the target! |

Sir_Chancealot User ID: 164485 United States 04/20/2007 12:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From other thread... ...I finally got to shoot a Thompson SMG, which has been a lifelong dream. ... Quoting: Evil TwinThis is a cool and heartwarming story involving a Thompson. When my brother-in-law (who is more like a brother to me) was a lot younger, he had a fully auto Thompson (legally). Paid about $2,200 when all was said and done, so that should tell you how long ago it was. He sold it because of the hospital bill that came due when his second son was born (the same nephew that went with me to Knob Creek). His son has always heard him talk about that Thompson, so he went and bought one, a 50 round drum clip, and a "guitar" case that was made to hold it (like you see in the old Gangster movies). He gave it to him for Christmas in 2005. The only difference is that this one is a semi-auto. It brought a tear to my brother-in-law's eye. As usual, my sister bitched about her son spending $800 on a gun that his father "didn't need". but it gets my vote as "Best Christmas Present Ever" because of the story behind it. |

I didn't actually meet up with anyone from glp. I was listening to my radio all day saturday and sunday, but as you might imagine, it's pretty damn hard to hear anything when machine guns are going off constantly! I probably walked right by Sir Chancealot, and didn't realize it. |
